Job summary

The National Radio Astronomy Observatory (NRAO) seeks a full-time technician for the Millimeter/Submillimeter receiver group in Charlottesville, VA. You will assemble microwave and millimeter-wave components and test sensitive devices under a microscope, contributing to state-of-the-art radio astronomy receivers.

Ideal candidates have 3 years of related experience, an associate’s degree (bachelor’s preferred), and strong documentation skills.

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Bachelor’s degree in a related field is preferred.
• 3 years of professional experience fabricating RF or microwave components or systems.
• Experience with RF/microwave measurement equipment is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Assemble millimeter wave and microwave circuits.
• Test millimeter wave and microwave circuits and systems.
• Record and analyze test data.
• Track and maintain lab supplies and parts; reorder as necessary.
