Job summary
National Radio Astronomy Observatory (NRAO) is seeking an Assistant Scientist to join the ODS project team in Charlottesville. The role dedicates time to software development, testing, and independent research, with opportunities for telework for highly qualified candidates.
The position advances collaboration with NRAO sites, observatories, and federal agencies in radio astronomy spectrum management. The ideal candidate has a PhD in a relevant field and at least one year of cross-team research
Qualifications
- PhD in astronomy, physics, mathematics, electrical/computer science engineering or related fields.
- Minimum one year of experience collaborating with inter-departmental groups and large scientific or engineering collaborations.
- Experience leading or contributing to medium to large-scale research projects with teamwork.
Responsibilities
- Develop and integrate software features for the ODS system and coordinate testing.
- Support testing and analysis activities across NRAO sites and partner observatories.
- Prepare user guides, documentation, and technical memos; contribute to scientific publications.
- Engage with stakeholders, document requirements, and maintain project materials.
