Job summary

Milken Community Schools is seeking a Student Assistant for the Milken Mart after-school operations. You will assist students and staff, operate the POS, restock and rotate products, and help maintain a safe, welcoming environment on campus.

The position is part-time, hourly at $19 per hour, with shifts Monday through Thursday from 3:00–6:30 p.m. On-campus supervision applies; Paycom time-tracking is used.

Qualifications

  • Complete required training in POS procedures, customer service, inventory, food safety, cleanup, emergency procedures and Mart policies.
  • Obtain a California Food Handler Card within 30 days if duties require it.
  • Demonstrate reliability, punctuality, professionalism and respectful behavior.
  • Communicate absences or scheduling conflicts promptly to the supervisor.

Responsibilities

  • Welcome and assist students, employees, parents, and guests in a friendly, professional manner.
  • Operate the POS system and accurately process purchases.
  • Restock, organize, and rotate refrigerated, frozen, and shelf-stable products with approved procedures.
  • Check merchandise for placement and visible expiration dates; monitor inventory needs.
  • Wipe counters, maintain clean work areas; dispose of trash per procedures.
  • Follow all safety, allergen labeling, and cash-handling procedures.
  • Accurately record all time worked; perform other Mart-related duties as assigned.

Because the world our children will create tomorrow is born in the School we build today, our mission is to educate our children so they can surpass us.Position OverviewThe Milken Mart Student Assistant supports after-school Mart operations while gaining practical experience in customer service, inventory management, food safety, and Point-of-Sale (POS) operations. The Student Assistant helps provide an efficient, safe, and welcoming environment for students, employees, parents, and guests.ResponsibilitiesWelcome and assist students, employees, parents, and guests in a friendly and professional manner.Operate the Point-of-Sale (POS) system and accurately process purchases.Restock, organize, and rotate refrigerated, frozen, and shelf-stable products using approved procedures.Check merchandise for proper placement and visible expiration dates.Monitor product availability and communicate inventory needs to the supervisor.Wipe counters and maintain clean, organized, and welcoming work areas.Notify the supervising adult of spills and clean them promptly using approved safety procedures.Break down boxes and dispose of trash using approved procedures.Follow all Milken Mart, school, food safety, workplace safety, allergen labeling, and cash-handling procedures.Accurately record all time worked.Perform other appropriate Mart-related duties assigned by the supervisor.Eligibility and QualificationsThis position is available to 12th-grade Milken Community School students.Employment is contingent upon Division leadership and HR approval, and parent or guardian authorization for students under age 18.Complete required training in POS procedures, customer service, inventory, food safety, cleanup, emergency procedures, and Mart policies.Obtain a California Food Handler Card within 30 days of beginning work, if required for the duties performed.Demonstrate reliability, punctuality, professionalism, sound judgment, and respectful behavior.Communicate promptly with the supervisor regarding absences, late arrivals, or scheduling conflicts.Maintain confidentiality and protect sensitive information learned through employment.SupervisionThe Student Assistant will report to the designated Milken Mart supervisor. A designated adult Milken employee will be physically present and available on the same campus for the student's entire shift. Student Assistants may not open or close the Mart independently or work without an approved adult employee on campus.If the regularly assigned supervisor is unavailable, another designated adult Milken employee will be assigned before the student begins work. If an approved adult is not available, the student may not work that shift.Safety and Physical RequirementsStand and move around the Mart for most of the assigned shift and bend, reach, push, and pull as needed.Lift and carry items weighing up to 25 pounds, with assistance when needed.Perform the position's essential responsibilities safely, with reasonable accommodation when applicable.Do not operate trash compactors, cardboard balers, powered cutting or slicing equipment, vehicles, golf carts, or other machinery or equipment prohibited to student employees.Request assistance from the supervising adult whenever a task presents a safety concern, exceeds the student's training, or requires lifting beyond the student's ability.Standard On-Campus HoursAvailable shifts are Monday through Thursday from 3:00-6:30 p.m. Student Assistants will generally work one or two assigned days per week based on their availability and the Mart's operational needs.Maximum of 3.5 hours per school day.Maximum of seven hours per week.No work on non-school days or during school breaks.One paid 10-minute rest period during each 3.5-hour shift.Any schedule changes requested by the Student Assistants must be approved 10 days in advance.Campus AssignmentStudent Assistants may be assigned to the Ruby Family Campus or the Jan Koum Campus based on operational needs. Students will remain at their assigned campus for the entire shift and will not travel between campuses while working.Compensation and Employment ClassificationThis is a part-time, hourly, nonexempt position.Student Assistants will be paid $19.00 per hour and must accurately record all time worked in Paycom.Students must maintain good academic standing. If academic concerns arise, work hours may be reduced, paused, or end entirely.Employment is at will and may be ended by either the student or Milken at any time, with or without advance notice or cause, subject to applicable law.Milken strives to be a nurturing, diverse, and inclusive community.
