Job summary

Parsons School for Design, a division of The New School, seeks Student Assistants for various shops within the Making Center. The Making Center offers labs, studios, and open spaces to support making across disciplines, encouraging experimentation and collaboration.

On‑campus position with a hourly wage of $17.00. Responsibilities include shop upkeep, tool provisioning through WebCheckout, and opening/closing duties. Evening and weekend hours may be required.

Qualifications

• Excellent customer service skills.
• Understand and follow verbal and written instructions, and communicate clearly with users.
• Adaptable and consistent when notifying the supervisor of schedule changes.
• Attention to detail.
• Interact with students, faculty, and staff of diverse backgrounds.
• Work independently without close supervision.
• Familiarity with Google Suite (Calendar, Gmail, Docs, Sheets, etc.).
• Physical ability to lift items up to 25 lbs, occasionally up to 50 lbs.
• Ability to work non‑traditional hours such as evenings and weekends.

Responsibilities

The Making Center is a collection of over 70,000 sq.ft. of labs, shops, studios, and open work spaces that provide curricular support for making across a broad range of mediums and disciplines, and supports experimentation and interdisciplinary collaboration.

• Report for shift on time and primarily assist Making Center Staff with reviewing the priority of tasks in the shop, including upkeep, organization, and maintenance.

Work Mode

On‑campus position. Employees are expected to work on‑campus during regularly scheduled work hours due to the nature of the work that is not feasible, or not in the organization’s best interest, to be performed remotely.

Compensation

$17.00 per hour
