Job summary

Parsons School for Design, a division of The New School, seeks Student Assistants for Making Center shops. This on-campus program provides labs, studios, and open spaces that support making across disciplines.

Responsibilities include assisting Making Center staff, operating WebCheckout to provide tools and process materials, and handling opening/closing duties. The hourly rate is $17.00. Equal opportunity employer.

Qualifications

  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Able to understand and follow verbal and written instructions from supervisor and communicate clearly with Making Center users.
  • Adaptable and consistent when notifying the supervisor of schedule changes.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Ability to interact with students, faculty, and staff of diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to work without close supervision or alone.
  • Familiarity with Google Suite (Calendar, Gmail, Docs, Sheets, etc.).
  • Physical ability to lift items weighing up to 25 lbs and, on occasion, up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work non‑traditional hours such as evenings and weekends.

Job Summary

Parsons School for Design, a division of The New School, seeks Student Assistants in various shops within the Making Center. The Making Center is a collection of more than 70,000 sq.ft. of labs, shops, studios, and open work spaces that provide curricular support for making across a broad range of mediums and disciplines and supports experimentation and interdisciplinary collaboration.

Responsibilities
  • Report for shift on time and primarily assist Making Center Staff with reviewing priority of tasks in the shop including: upkeep, organization, and maintenance.
  • Work in WebCheckout providing students appropriate tools for their projects as well as process materials for the store.
  • Proper opening and closing of the shops, as assigned by Making Center Staff, including opening the space and unlocking resources and turning on/logging into computers.

Work Mode

On‑campus position – Employees in this position are expected to work on‑campus during regularly scheduled work hours due to the nature of the work that is not feasible, or not in the organization’s best interest, to be performed remotely.

Hourly Rate

$17.00 per hour.
