Qualifications

• Completion of nursing program at an accredited school.
• Able to perform necessary mathematical tasks at above high school level.

Responsibilities

• Receive orders and maintain current order records.
• Communicate with medical personnel to clarify orders and prepare infant feedings using aseptic techniques.
• Label prepared feedings per policy and deliver feedings to designated areas.
• Maintain adequate supplies and rotate inventory.
• Check and dispose of outdated supplies as required by policy.
• Operate equipment needed to prepare feedings and maintain sanitation in the prep area.
• Communicate with the registered dietician regarding non-standard recipes or orders.
• File and maintain temperature and other required audit records.
• Train ancillary/PRN staff as necessary.
• Follow up with mothers providing breastmilk to ensure adequate supply and infection control.

Job Description
The Milk Technician LPN is responsible for preparing, labeling, and delivering human milk and formula feedings to neonatal and pediatric patients in a hospital setting. This role ensures accurate documentation, strict adherence to safety protocols, and close collaboration with nursing staff to support optimal patient nutrition. The technician also maintains cleanliness and inventory within the milk preparation area.
Responsibilities

• Responsible for receiving orders & maintaining records of current orders.
• Responsible for communicating with the medical personnel to clarify orders, preparing infant feedings using aseptic techniques and all policies and procedures developed for the operation of the infant feeding room.
• Responsible for labeling prepared feedings per policy and delivering feedings to the designated areas.
• Responsible for maintaining adequate supplies.
• Responsible for checking and disposing of all outdated supplies per policy.
• Responsible for rotating inventory, and operating all equipment needed to prepare feedings.
• Responsible for maintaining sanitation in the preparation area.
• Responsible for communicating with the registered dietician regarding individualized or non-standard recipes or orders.
• Responsible for filing and maintaining temperature records and other records as required for audits.
• Responsible training of ancillary/PRN or support staff personnel as necessary.
• Responsible for follow-up on the mothers who are providing breastmilk for their infants to ensure adequate supply and infection control.
