Responsibilities include decision‑making within defined parameters, immediate issue resolution, short‑term planning, and supporting senior staff in long‑term planning and data analysis. The role involves engine operability analysis, presenting findings, and contributing to business strategy for Engine Operability.

Operability is a cross‑functional engineering discipline balancing business and technical needs to deliver quality products meeting customer and regulatory requirements. It encompasses system requirement identification, design concept creation, trade studies, design selection, implementation, and verification from design to production to operation.

As a Propulsion Operability Engineer, you will be part of the Aerothermal systems design team, supporting next‑generation military engine architectures and current products. The role focuses on assessing and predicting engine stability and operational capability across all flight regimes, impacting the quality of work for yourself and the team, with flexibility in task execution based on changing work situations.

Roles and Responsibilities
  • Drives units and/or system level functional performance to deliver customer solutions. Defines and conducts testing of equipment and/or entire systems, identifying the best testing strategy and measurement system. Reports performance with respect to the guaranteed values in accordance with industry codes and standards. Participates in the research, design, development, and enhancement of technologies in the areas of performance, operability, and cost optimization. Can include delivery of customer solutions that properly balance cost and benefit (including architecture, key design trade‑offs, flow‑down of requirements and flow‑up of capability).
  • Developing specialized knowledge in their discipline. Serves as best practice/quality resource. Has awareness of latest technical developments in own area. Contributes towards strategy and policy development, and ensure delivery within area of responsibility.
  • Has in‑depth knowledge of best practices and how own area integrates with others; has working knowledge of competition and the factors that differentiate them in the market.

Takes new perspective on existing solutions. Uses technical experience and expertise for data analysis to support recommendations. Uses multiple internal and limited external sources outside of own function to arrive at decisions.
  • Acts as a resource for colleagues with less experience. May lead small projects with moderate risks and resource requirements. Explains difficult or sensitive information; works to build consensus. Developing persuasion skills required to influence others on topics within field.
  • Developing engine test plans to verify safe engine operation limits.
  • Monitoring component and systems level tests to ensure the safety of the test vehicle.
  • Analyzing inlet distortion and developing hardware to simulate the impact on engine operation.
  • Coordinating with a cross‑functional team of adjacent disciplines (aero, performance, systems). Executing the analysis / evaluation of assigned projects that meet business standards, practices and procedures and the product / program requirements.
  • Ensuring proper documentation of technical data generated for the assigned projects and/or tasks consistent with engineering policies and procedures.
  • Providing timely communications on significant issues or developments.
