Job description

We are seeking a Senior Thermodynamic Performance Engineer to lead the analysis, prediction, and optimization of engine thermodynamic performance across the full operating envelope. In this role, you will be a technical leader for cycle performance, fuel efficiency, and operating margins, partnering closely with design, controls, test, and services teams. You will own key performance models and datasets, drive test‑to‑model correlation, and provide clear, data‑driven recommendations that improve safety, reliability, fuel burn, and operability. You will be part of our LEAN transformation so that you can work smarter and not harder.

Roles and Responsibilities
  • Develop and own cycle and performance models (steady‑state and transient) for engines across the operating envelope.
  • Predict thrust/power, fuel flow, temperatures, pressures, and margins versus altitude, Mach, and mission conditions.
  • Plan and support engine performance testing, including defining test matrices and key performance points.
  • Correlate test data to models, perform uncertainty analysis, and update maps/models based on results.
  • Create and refine component maps and limits (fan/compressor/turbine maps, operating lines, surge and temperature margins).
  • Collaborate with controls engineers on schedules (VGV, bleeds, fuel flow) to balance performance, operability, and hardware life.
  • Analyze fleet and in‑service performance data to identify trends, degradation, and improvement opportunities.
  • Lead performance trade studies and optimization for efficiency, fuel burn, and operating margins.
  • Support certification and customer programs with validated performance data and technical justifications.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentoring to junior engineers and drive best practices in thermodynamic performance.
  • Work cross‑functionally with design, aero, mechanical, systems, test, and services teams to ensure performance requirements are met.
  • Improve gas turbine thermodynamic and operability modeling techniques.
  • Engage in research, design, development, and enhancement of technologies to improve performance, operability, and cost.
  • Develop strong relationships with external customers and partners.
  • Document technical data and results in accordance with engineering policies and procedures.
  • Communicate significant technical issues, risks, or developments in a timely manner.
  • Participate in organizational initiatives and technical/program reviews.
  • Support technical program managers and mentor less experienced engineers.
  • Make decisions within a defined framework and engage senior team members on complex issues.
  • Contribute independently to projects while supporting senior engineers in advancing performance related technologies.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited university or college.
  • Minimum of 8 years’ experience related to Aircraft Engine Performance or a related discipline.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Security Clearance (U.S. citizenship required).
  • GE Aerospace will not sponsor individuals for employment visas, now or in the future, for this job opening.
  • Knowledge of gas turbine engine test support, analysis, and thermodynamic modeling.
  • Experience documenting, planning, and executing technical programs; established project management skills.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills and strong interpersonal, leadership, and influencing skills.
  • Process‑oriented mindset with strong problem analysis, resolution skills, and systems thinking.
  • Strong analytical skills in thermodynamics and aerodynamics.
  • Experience coaching and mentoring less experienced performance engineers.
  • Experience in aircraft engine testing, cycle performance, or component aero design.
  • Proficiency with NPSS, Python, or similar simulation/programming tools.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a structured team environment and also independently.
  • Strong ability to document and execute technical programs and advanced research initiatives.
Desired Characteristics
  • Advanced degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering with a focus on thermofluids or turbomachinery.
  • Enthusiasm for propulsion and aero/thermodynamic disciplines.
  • Experience in gas turbine engine qualification and certification.
  • Experience with engine test support and analysis, including cycle performance.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal, leadership, and influencing skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a structured team environment and independently.
