Job description

Job Description Summary

The Military DoD SkillBridge program is an opportunity for Service members to gain valuable civilian work experience through specific industry training, apprenticeships, or internships during the last 180 days of service. SkillBridge connects Service members with industry partners in real‑world job experiences under Dept. of Defense Instruction 1322.29. Separating Service members can be granted up to 180 days of permissive duty to focus solely on training full‑time with approved industry partners after unit commander (first O-4/Field Grade commander in chain of command) provides written authorization and approval. GE Aerospace as a SkillBridge partner offers real‑world training and work experience in in‑demand fields of work while having the opportunity to evaluate the Service member’s suitability for the work. Military DoD SkillBridge participants are not eligible for compensation from GE Aerospace, as they continue to receive military compensation and benefits as active‑duty service members.

Responsibilities
  • Set up and operate a range of manufacturing/fabrication‑related tools and equipment, including assembly fixtures, orbital welder, forming, cutting, cleaning, brazing, marking, etc. to produce hardware that meets close tolerance requirements.
  • Utilize a variety of precision gauges, inspection measuring tools, and fixtures to conduct both mechanical and visual inspections of products and hardware.
  • Identify and manage the processing of quality‑related nonconforming and noncompliant products and materials, including the Preliminary Review quality process.
  • Foster a collaborative work environment by actively participating in cross‑training initiatives and promoting teamwork to enhance overall team performance and flexibility.
  • Perform related environmental, health, safety, maintenance, quality, continuous improvement, and production‑flow job duties to support plant machinery, equipment, and manufacturing‑related initiatives and programs.
  • Strong commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement in all operations.
  • Attend shift crossover and other business‑required meetings when applicable.
  • Participate in training duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications

Active Military personnel on their last 180 days before separating from Military Service.

High School diploma/GED with a minimum of 6 months of experience in a technically related field such as manufacturing, fabrication, or mechanical engineering; OR Associates Degree or Bachelors Degree in a technically related field such as manufacturing, fabrication, or mechanical engineering.

Desirable Qualifications
  • Possess a technical certification in a relevant field (e.g. aerospace engineering, mechanical systems, etc.) that demonstrated specialized knowledge and proficiency in industry‑standard tools, technologies or methodologies.
  • Set up, operate and maintain machine, manufacturing, and fabrication tools and equipment to ensure optimal performance and efficiency. This includes calibrating machinery, troubleshooting issues, performing routine maintenance and adhering to safety and quality standards to support production goals.
  • Perform essential mathematical calculations to ensure accurate measurements and alignments, utilizing precision gauges, fixtures, and inspection measuring equipment to verify tolerances and dimensions.
  • Interpret blueprints, detailed sketches, engineering specifications, and technical drawings to analyze requirements, determine appropriate setups, and plan operations necessary for completing job tasks with precision and efficiency.
  • Knowledge of Lean manufacturing principles, including waste reduction, process optimization, and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Exhibit excellent communication skills to facilitate teamwork, resolve conflicts, and ensure alignment on production needs.
  • Show capability in adhering to guidance and supervision, following work rules, safety practices and procedures, while meeting deadlines and maintaining punctuality and attendance standards.
  • Compliance with U.S. export‑controlled information requirements: employment is contingent upon the ability to prove that you meet the status of a U.S. Person as one of the following: U.S. lawful permanent resident, U.S. citizen, or have been granted asylee or refugee status.
