Qualifications

  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting mechanical blueprints and using precision measuring instruments, with at least two years of relevant experience.

Responsibilities

  • Utilize complex measuring devices for part dimension checks.
  • Perform precise indicating on parts using specific techniques.
  • Train operators to use equipment, fostering collaboration.
  • Ensure quality assurance by meeting established tolerances.
  • Participate in daily team meetings and direct communication.
  • Obtain and maintain CVP certification with provided training.
  • Serialize parts to maintain traceability.

  • Set up and operate equipment according to drawings and method sheets.
  • Handle material with forklifts/cranes up to 50 lbs following safety procedures.

Job description

GE Aerospace offers a unique opportunity through the Military DoD SkillBridge program for active duty service members in the last 180 days of service to gain valuable civilian work experience in manufacturing through CNC machine operation. Participants will work alongside industry partners while remaining on active duty and will not receive compensation from GE Aerospace.

For more than 22 years, our manufacturing facilities in Wilmington have been the driving force behind the growth and success of GE Aerospace. With 600,000 square feet of manufacturing space and an advanced mix of over 300 CNC machines and 21 special processing capabilities, we produce high‑quality rotating parts for commercial and military aircraft engines. Our team plays a crucial role in introducing advanced new technologies such as the LEAP and 9x Engines, providing outstanding opportunities to contribute to the future of aviation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Dimensional Accuracy: Utilize complex measuring devices to generate and check part dimensions during various machining stages, ensuring precision and accuracy.
  • Critical Indication: Perform precise indicating on parts, where true indicator reading (TIR) and four‑point indication are essential.
  • Record Keeping: Accurately account for your time using the prescribed system, electronically maintain records, logbooks and charts, and produce electronic or manual reports.
  • Training and Development: Help train operators to use specific equipment, sharing expertise and fostering a collaborative learning environment.
  • Quality Assurance: Achieve all required tolerances and finishes that meet standards set by Manufacturing Engineering and Quality Assurance, ensuring all characteristics at designated operations are conforming.
  • Certification: Obtain and maintain the CVP certification, with training provided to support professional growth.
  • Traceability: Accurately serialize parts to maintain traceability at all times, ensuring compliance with industry standards.
  • Team Collaboration: Actively participate in daily team meetings and activities, practicing direct professional communication and contributing to a positive team dynamic.
  • Equipment Operation: Perform set‑up and operation of equipment according to drawings, method sheets, and occasionally supplement this information with job knowledge.
  • Material Handling: Utilize forklifts, cranes and material‑handling equipment to lift or carry objects weighing up to 50 lbs, following proper ergonomic procedures.
Required Qualifications
  • Active Military personnel in their last 180 days of service.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Expertise in CNC machining processes (drilling, milling, grinding, turning, or broaching) with at least three years of experience, or a two‑year degree from an accredited machinist training program.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting mechanical blueprints and using precision measuring instruments, with at least two years of relevant experience.

This role requires access to U.S. export‑controlled information. Employment will be contingent upon the ability to prove status as a U.S. Person (U.S. lawful permanent resident, U.S. citizen, or granted asylee/refugee status).
