Job summary

Nexus Family Healing in Fargo, ND is seeking a Milieu Supervisor to lead trauma-informed milieu operations on site. The role oversees treatment plans, staff scheduling, and daily program functions at our Fargo campus.

Ideal candidates have a supervisory background in youth services, with strong communication and cultural competency skills, and a valid driver’s license. This is a full-time, exempt position with comprehensive benefits and advancement opportunities.

Qualifications

  • HS diploma and 2 years Nexus youth treatment/counseling experience or 4 years external youth residential experience.
  • Associates degree with 2 years experience in residential setting.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field with at least 1 year youth residential experience.
  • Minimum of 1 year of team lead or supervisory experience.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare staff work schedules to maintain adequate staff and client ratios.
  • Ensure staff interact with clients in a calm, therapeutic, trauma-informed manner.
  • Maintain and approve staff time cards.
  • Plan trauma-informed daily treatment services and program activities.
  • Provide on-the-job coaching, training, and mentoring to staff.
  • Coordinate shift-related client and staff documentation.
  • Identify problems and generate alternative solutions.
  • Mentor new Youth Care Professionals and supervise assigned staff.
  • Conduct regular program area inspections and ensure safety.

Position Overview

We are excited to be hiring a Milieu Supervisor at our Nexus Family Healing campus located in Fargo, ND. The Milieu Supervisor is responsible for providing trauma‑informed milieu leadership and mentorship, guiding treatment plans through effective communication, organization, and daily operations of the program and assigned unit.

Schedule, Location & Pay
  • Full time, 40 hours per week
  • $52,000 – 55,000 per year salary, exempt
  • Onsite at our Luther Hall location in Fargo, ND

Responsibilities
  • Prepare assigned staff work schedules to ensure adequate staff and client ratios.
  • Ensure staff perform their duties and interact with clients in a calm, therapeutic, and trauma‑informed manner.
  • Maintain and approve staff time cards accurately.
  • Assist in planning and scheduling trauma‑informed daily treatment services, transportation needs, family time, special events, functions, and approved program trips.
  • Contribute to the development of and adherence to guidance plans.
  • Provide on‑the‑job coaching, training, and mentoring to staff.
  • Coordinate and ensure all shift‑related client and staff documentation is completed.
  • Identify potential problems or risk factors on the program and generate alternative solutions.
  • Ensure new admissions enter a safe and welcoming environment.
  • Assist in the review of new applicants and participate in the interview and selection of staff/team members.
  • Ensure new Youth Care Professionals are mentored properly.
  • Provide direct supervision of assigned staff and conduct ongoing performance management.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding client and family issues, background, and treatment.
  • Conduct regular inspections of program areas.
  • Provide direct floor coverage during staff absences, emergencies, and for on‑call coverage.
  • Remain current on all company policies, assigned training, and certification requirements.
  • Recognize and value cultural differences in all aspects of work and service delivery.
Required Education and Experience
  • High School Diploma and 2 years minimum Nexus experience working in a treatment/counseling capacity for youth (e.g., residential, foster care/adoption, CTSS, group home/TLP, day treatment, or related adolescent counseling programs) OR 4 years external experience working with youth in a residential treatment facility.
  • Associate’s Degree and 2 years minimum experience (external and/or internal) working with youth in a residential treatment facility.
  • Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in social work, psychology, or a clinically related field, and minimum 1 year of related experience with youth in a residential treatment facility.
  • Minimum of one year of team lead and/or supervisory experience required.
  • Experience working with families and trauma‑exposed children or adolescents strongly preferred.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Valid driver’s license required; must meet state regulating agency and company driving requirements.
  • Ability to pass all necessary background screening requirements per DHS rules and regulations.
  • Ability to build strong relationships with diverse individuals or communities and understand their unique needs and challenges.
  • Open to meeting the cultural needs of individuals or communities, considering language, traditions, and values.
Physical Demands

The job requires extended periods of standing and walking. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted and up to 100+ pounds with assistance. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
