Job summary

The Home for Little Wanderers, Inc. in Waltham is seeking a Milieu Director for the Waltham House program serving LGBTQ+ identifying youth and families. You will supervise Residential Counselors, oversee staff performance, and lead policy development for the milieu.

You will also provide direct therapeutic care as needed, manage crises, and drive restorative practices while ensuring a safe, therapeutic environment for residents and staff.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) required.
  • Driver's license in good standing.
  • At least 4 years direct childcare experience in a residential setting with emotionally challenged children.
  • 2–3 years of supervisory experience.

Responsibilities

  • Provide individual and team supervision for Residential Counselors, hire/train staff, evaluate performance and handle disciplinary actions.
  • Draft and revise program policies; monitor implementation of THLW guidelines as a management team member.
  • Coordinate and provide staff training and oversee volunteer placement and training.
  • Provide direct therapeutic care to residents and crisis intervention as needed, including restraints when required.
  • Review incident reports and contribute to information gathering for incidents per guidelines.
  • Develop and oversee behavior management systems and monitor effectiveness.
  • Maintain a therapeutic milieu environment and plan therapeutic activities continuously.
  • Oversee shift documentation, reporting, and implementation of Restorative Practices.

Education

Bachelor's degree or equivalent
Driver's license
4+ years direct childcare experience in a residential setting
2-3 years supervisory experience

Waltham House seeks a Milieu Director for their program supporting LGBTQ+ identifying people and their families.

How You Will Be Making A Difference
  • Provide individual and team supervision for Residential Counselors. Hire, train and evaluate staff performance; oversee disciplinary action and terminations. Provide input regarding salary administration. Hire new counseling staff. Coordinate the placement and training of volunteer staff.
  • As a member of the management team, draft and revise program policies and procedures, monitor the implementation of THLW guidelines.
  • Coordinate and provide training for staff members.
  • Provide direct therapeutic care to the residents and TCI crisis intervention as needed including the use of restraints; assume a leadership role in managing emergency situations.
  • Review incident reports; participate in the gathering of information for incidents not handled in a manner consistent with The Home's guidelines.
  • Develop and oversee implementation of behavior management system. Monitor the effectiveness of behavior management strategies.
  • Ensure a therapeutic environment on the milieu at all times. Ensure that therapeutic activities are planned at all necessary times and oversee the coordination of these activities.
  • Oversee and monitor shift documentation and reports.
  • Oversee implementation of Restorative Practices within the program on youth and staff levels.
  • May provide medical administration per MAP protocol.
Qualifications
  • Equivalent to Bachelor’s degree
  • Driver's license in good standing required
  • At least 4 years + direct childcare experience in a residential setting with emotionally challenged children
  • 2-3 years supervisory experience
