Job summary

FCCI Insurance Group in Carmel, IN is seeking a Commercial Lines Underwriter Trainee for the Spring 2027 cohort. The program trains you to underwrite commercial risk, develop agent and client relationships, and master underwriting guidelines within a structured training path.

The role starts in June 2027 with a comprehensive training program, and regional travel may be required for periodic training sessions. Competitive benefits and salary range are offered.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Risk Management & Insurance or related field.
• Excellent communication, negotiation, relationship building, interpersonal and organizational skills.
• Ability to analyze, define and solve problems; the use of good judgment and decision-making.
• Willingness to complete industry designations such as CPCU or CIC is desired.

We are currently seeking a self-motivated individual to join our team as a Commercial Lines Underwriter Trainee. In this role, you will train to underwrite risk that determines the selection/rejection of new and renewal commercial business. The trainee will gain an understanding of the underwriting thought process and learn to utilize underwriting guidelines, procedures, rating manual rules and insurance laws/regulations. Additionally, the Trainee will learn the skills required to develop and maintain strong relationships with agents and insureds within assigned territory.

The trainee will participate in an extensive training program involving instruction and self-study combined with on-the-job shadowing that will provide the opportunity to learn the business. Upon successful mastery, the underwriter trainee will evaluate existing and new accounts and make underwriting recommendations within limited authority on assignments of moderate technical complexity.This position will be based at our Gulf Coast Regional Office in Ridgeland, MS. Regionally based individuals must be willing to travel to our corporate headquarters for periodic training purposes in addition to occasional travel in the territory. Our CLU Trainee program starts in June, 2027.

The salary range for this position is $24.80-$38.19 hourly. This salary range is an estimate and the actual salary will vary based on applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities.
