Job summary

Uncommon Schools is seeking a Dean of Special Education to lead and advance the district's SPED program. The role focuses on supporting students with disabilities, coordinating services, and guiding teachers and coordinators to meet IEP goals.

The position requires a strong instructional leader with urban education experience, a SPED credential, and a track record of improving student outcomes in challenging settings. Strong collaboration with administrators is essential.

Qualifications

• Drive to improve the minds and lives of students in and out of the classroom.
• Proven track-record of high achievement in the classroom.
• Mastery of and enthusiasm for academic subjects.
• Evidence of self-motivation and willingness to be a team player.
• Bachelor's degree is required; Master's degree is preferred.
• Minimum of five years teaching and leading experience in an urban public school or charter school setting.
• Special Education teaching certification required.

Responsibilities

• Lead the development, implementation, and leadership of the school's special needs program.
• Support teachers to uphold high and consistent behavioral expectations.
• Manage Special Education Coordinators and related services providers.
• Collaborate with school leadership to maximize support for student academic and socio-emotional development.
• Provide professional development and coaching for Special Education staff.
