Job summary

Uncommon Schools in New York City seeks a Dean of Special Education (DOSS) to lead the school’s special needs program, drive IEP compliance, and support students with emotional and physical challenges. You will work with the Principal, Director of Operations, and Uncommon leaders to shape a high-achieving culture and student outcomes.

You will supervise coordinators and teachers, coordinate with related services, and mentor staff while upholding Uncommon’s beliefs and mission in an urban public

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree is required; Master’s degree is preferred.
• Minimum of five years teaching and leading experience in an urban public school or charter school setting.
• Special Education teaching certification required
• Belief in Uncommon’s core beliefs and educational philosophy is non-negotiable.

Responsibilities

• Ensure the quality of services for students with IEPs and testing accommodations.
• Coordinate behavior intervention plans and run weekly support plan meetings.
• Lead professional development for general education teachers on IEP responsibilities and accommodations.
• Collaborate with school leaders to maximize student development and a positive school culture.
• Oversee coordinators and paraprofessional staffing to support students’ progress.
