River Oaks Baptist School is seeking a dynamic and innovative Spanish Teacher to join our team beginning August 2025.

The River Oaks Baptist School Middle School Spanish program begins in 5th grade with a continuation of the Lower School program. Because classes are taught exclusively in Spanish, native or near-native proficiency in Spanish is required. In 6th and 7th grades, students are presented a more formal Spanish language experience that divides Spanish I over a two-year period, followed by a complete Spanish II course in 8th grade.

A successful candidate will demonstrate both progressive and traditional elements of teaching, including innovative technology to support the curriculum. This teacher must be able to communicate with parents, other teachers, and administrators in person and in writing. He/she needs to be organized and have the ability to keep on top of an array of fast-moving, complex classroom activities and interactions. Working as a team member and enjoying teaching Middle School students is essential.

We are looking for a candidate who exhibits enthusiasm, energy, initiative, and the capacity for reflection and lifelong learning. Middle School teachers are expected to serve as an effective advisor, which includes a character and spiritual component. He/she will be supported by a department head, instructional coaches, the MS Dean of Students, the Head of MS, the Assistant Head of MS, and the Associate Head of School for Academics.

Responsibilities

  • Teach up to five classes of middle school Spanish with up to two preps
  • Serve as an advisor to nine to twelve students in the same grade as your teaching assignment
  • Potentially sponsor a middle school activity or club
  • Model and guide students in values and character development
  • Employ current research-informed pedagogies, including project-based learning and design thinking
  • Deliver innovative curriculum that integrated technology intentionally and appropriately
  • Embrace lifelong learning and a growth mindset for yourself and your students
  • Participate collaboratively in grade-level, department, division, and all school-teams
  • Communicate effectively with parents and colleagues, both verbally and in writing
  • Demonstrate enthusiasm, energy, initiative, and self-reflection
  • Motivate and engage students
  • Delight in teaching children in the middle school years

Required Qualifications and Skills

  • Successful completion of background checks and verification
  • A bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 24 hours in Spanish and 12 hours of educational courses OR teaching certification for Spanish and for the grade-level applying
  • At least two year’s full-time teaching experience is preferred
