Job summary

Sandridge School District 172 is seeking an innovative Middle School Science Teacher (grades 6–8) to educate and inspire students. The ideal candidate will apply NGSS, foster inquiry-based learning, and work toward closing opportunity gaps for historically marginalized communities.

The role requires a strong science background, a valid Illinois PEL with science endorsement, and collaboration with SPED and support staff to support all learners.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education, Secondary Science Education, or related field.
• Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with appropriate Science endorsement for grades 5–8 or 6–12.
• Previous middle school teaching experience preferred.
• Strong content knowledge in life, earth, and physical sciences; NGSS familiarity; equity-focused practices.

Responsibilities

• Plan, prepare, and deliver NGSS-aligned science instruction for grades 7–8.
• Design engaging, inquiry-based lessons and labs with hands-on investigations.
• Differentiate instruction and accommodate IEPs, 504s, and ELLs.
• Establish a positive, respectful classroom environment.
• Assess progress with formative and summative data to guide teaching.
• Integrate cross-curricular connections in math and literacy.
• Collaborate with team members, including SPED and support staff.
• Maintain accurate records of performance and attendance.
• Communicate regularly with families about progress and activities.
• Participate in school events and professional development.
• Perform other duties as assigned by administration.

Position Summary

Sandridge School District 172 is seeking an innovative and student-centered Middle School Science Teacher to educate and inspire students in grades 6 through 8. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) and be committed to fostering a hands-on, inquiry-based learning environment that promotes scientific thinking and real-world application. We are especially interested in candidates who are passionate about closing opportunity gaps for students from historically marginalized communities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Plan, prepare, and deliver effective science instruction aligned with NGSS for grades 7–8.
• Design engaging, inquiry-based lessons and labs that incorporate hands-on investigations, data analysis, and technology integration.
• Differentiate instruction and provide appropriate accommodations to meet the diverse learning needs of all students, including students with IEPs, 504s, and English Language Learners.
• Establish and maintain a positive classroom environment that promotes respect, safety, and a love for learning.
• Regularly assess student progress using formative and summative assessments; use data to guide instructional decisions.
• Integrate cross-curricular connections, particularly in math and literacy, to deepen students' understanding of science concepts.
• Collaborate with team members, including special education and support staff, to support student achievement.
• Maintain accurate and timely records of student performance, attendance, and communication.
• Communicate regularly with parents and guardians to keep them informed of student progress and classroom activities.
• Participate in school-wide events, professional development, committees, and ongoing school improvement initiatives.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the administration.

Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education, Secondary Science Education, or a related science field from an accredited institution.
• Certification: Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with appropriate Science endorsement for grades 5–8 or 6–12.
• Experience: Previous teaching experience in a middle school setting preferred.
• Skills and Dispositions:
