Position Summary

The Middle School Science Teacher will deliver engaging, standards-aligned science instruction to students in grades [specific grade level(s)], fostering inquiry, critical thinking, and a love of discovery. The teacher will collaborate closely with colleagues in daily Professional Learning Community (PLC) meetings to analyze student data, align instructional practices, and continuously improve student outcomes. The ideal candidate has a passion for science education, a strong understanding of Illinois Learning Standards for Science, and a commitment to building a supportive and inclusive classroom environment that meets the diverse needs of all learners.

Key Responsibilities
  • Instructional Planning and Delivery
    • Develop and implement science lessons that align with Illinois Learning Standards for Science and the school's curriculum.
    • Utilize a variety of instructional strategies, including hands-on experiments, labs, and project-based learning, to engage students in scientific inquiry and exploration.
    • Differentiate instruction to meet the unique needs of all students, including students with special needs, English Language Learners, and advanced learners.
  • Professional Learning Community (PLC) Participation
    • Participate in daily PLC meetings with grade-level and content-area colleagues to review student data, share best practices, and align teaching strategies.
    • Contribute insights, resources, and expertise to support shared goals for student achievement and professional growth.
    • Collaborate with team members to develop, implement, and assess common formative assessments, making data-driven adjustments to instruction.
  • Classroom Management and Environment
    • Create a positive, inclusive classroom environment that fosters curiosity, scientific thinking, and respect for others' ideas.
    • Implement effective classroom management strategies to maintain a safe and productive learning environment.
    • Encourage students to work collaboratively, take academic risks, and apply scientific concepts to real-world situations.
  • Student Assessment and Progress Monitoring
    • Utilize formative and summative assessments to monitor student progress in scientific concepts and skills.
    • Track and document student performance, providing timely feedback to students and families.
    • Collaborate with support staff and administration to provide targeted interventions or enrichment for students who need additional support.
  • Collaboration and Communication
    • Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress, classroom activities, and strategies to support science learning at home.
    • Engage in parent-teacher conferences, staff meetings, and professional development opportunities to further school goals and build positive relationships.
    • Work with colleagues, instructional support staff, and administration to ensure alignment across curriculum and effective support for all students.
  • Professional Development and School Community Involvement
    • Engage in ongoing professional development to remain current on best practices in science instruction, curriculum updates, and Illinois state standards.
    • Actively contribute to the school community, supporting extracurricular activities, school events, and fostering a positive school culture.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Science, Education, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
  • Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with Middle Grades Science Endorsement.
  • Strong knowledge of Illinois Learning Standards for Science and evidence-based science instructional practices.
  • Excellent communication, organization, and collaboration skills, especially in a PLC environment.
Preferred Skills
  • Experience with instructional technology and laboratory safety protocols.
  • Proficiency in data-driven instruction and differentiated teaching strategies.
  • Ability to promote critical thinking, curiosity, and a passion for scientific discovery in students.
