North Shore's retirement plan is organized through TIAA-CREF and is mandatory for all eligible employees. The joint annual employee/North Shore contribution is a constant 12% of salary with the employee’s share of the contribution decreasing based on years of service from a high of 6% to a low of 2%. Additionally, TIAA-CREF provides basic retirement/financial counseling to its participants.
Employees are offered their choice of three Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois health plans (Blue Choice PPO or HSA and an HMO) as well as dental insurance through Blue Cross Blue Shield. North Shore works to keep employee deductibles, premiums and copayments competitive to market.
North Shore provides life and total disability insurance coverage to employees.
Leave for vacation, school holidays, sickness, maternity/paternity, personal matters and bereavement are all offered to faculty and staff members.
Full-time faculty are eligible for tuition remission at 100% for their 1st child, 50% for their 2nd child, and 33% for each subsequent child enrolled. Part-time faculty/staff remission is prorated according to the FTE percentage employed.
North Shore provides regular support for faculty professional enrichment including grants to attend workshops and conferences and to support special projects. As well, NSCD assists select faculty with their graduate education, funding up to 80% of the cost. Additionally, North Shore sponsors a sabbatical program that pays one-third salary for a full year’s leave or full salary for a trimester’s leave. Finally, North Shore’s Benefit Board provides support for Summer Grants.
The Vera D. Wavering Sabbatical was established to renew the spirit, invigorate teaching and enhance the School community. The program is open to teachers and administrators. Sabbaticals are available for a full year, semester or part-time commitment. Plans can include study, teaching, travel, or a special project, and should have the potential to enrich not only the recipient, but also the wider School community.
All faculty and staff receive an annual credit of $550 on purchases in the cafeteria.
Upon employee request, North Shore may provide an emergency loan or payroll advance at no interest to be repaid through payroll deduction.
NSCD equips faculty with a school-owned Apple laptop and iPad to support their teaching. Employees may also finance the purchase of a personal computer at no interest to be repaid through payroll.
