Job summary

CHARTER HIGH SCHOOL FOR LAW AND SOCIAL JUSTICE is seeking a Reading Intervention Teacher to provide targeted literacy support for struggling readers through pull-out and push-in services within classrooms. You will plan, monitor, report progress, and collaborate with general education staff to accelerate growth.

The ideal candidate has a Master’s in Education or Special Education, NYS certification in a related field, and at least two years of teaching experience.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree required in Education or Special Education.
  • NYS Certification in a related field required.
  • Two years of prior teaching experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Identify students for placement intervention groups with instructional team.
  • Plan and deliver high-quality small group instruction (decoding/fluency/comprehension).
  • Administer ongoing reading assessments to monitor progress and inform instruction.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to reinforce reading across the mainstream setting.
  • Maintain data-based documentation of student performance and progress.
  • Communicate progress to teachers, administration, and families.
  • Provide diagnostic assessments as needed.
  • Attend trainings to improve knowledge and skills.

Job description

The Reading Intervention Teacher provides targeted instructional support to meet the literacy needs of struggling students through pull-out services and push-in support within the classroom setting. The role requires the ability to build trusting relationships with struggling readers and foster a supportive learning environment to achieve growth in our students’ literacy. The ideal candidate is adaptive in nature, has a positive approach to challenges, and is relentless in their pursuit of seeing every child become a reader. This position is responsible for planning, monitoring, reporting, communicating student progress and performance, and collaborating with general education staff.Essential ResponsibilitiesIdentify students for placement intervention groups in collaboration with the instructional teamPlan and deliver high-quality small group instruction that meets the targeted needs of scholars (decoding/ fluency/comprehension)Administer ongoing reading assessments to monitor the progress of intervention effortsCollaborate with classroom teachers, as needed, around teaching reading and supporting students in the mainstream setting, and best classroom instructional practicesCollaborate with other Reading Intervention Teachers to ensure programs support each other and align appropriately across school divisionsUses identified research-based interventions focused specifically on individual student needsMaintains data-based documentation of continuous monitoring of student performance and progressProvides data to school teams and participates in decisions about student progressCommunicate with teachers, administration, and families regarding student progressParticipates in meetings with teachers, administration, and families to discuss student placement and progressProvides diagnostic assessments for students as neededAttends the appropriate training to improve knowledge and skillsPerforms other related duties as assignedKnowledge and skillsAble to work independently and in a self-reliant mannerAbility to turn best practices into high-quality, goal-driven resultsAbility to apply instructional strategies for differentiationAbility to collect data and make course placement recommendations for studentsDisplays effective time management skillsExperience with data management tools, organizational tools, and computer skills (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and Outlook).Possesses strong written, oral, and interpersonal skills to communicate with a varied audienceRequired - Master's in Education, Special Education, or related fieldRequired - NYS Certification in a related fieldRequired - At least two years of prior teaching experience.
