Job description

The Middle School Principal develops, guides and nurtures Ada Christian School’s Middle School learning environment, ensuring alignment with ACS’s mission, vision, core beliefs and strategic goals. He/she is responsible for building and sustaining a positive Christ-centered school culture where faith and learning thrive. He/she cultivates an environment of excellence in learning where staff feel supported, valued and empowered to do their best. The Principal oversees all 5 th -8 th Grade aspects of instructional leadership including educational programming, administration and student discipline. He/she is a member of the ACS leadership team and collaborates with all members of the ACS community to ensure the school flourishes and students achieve their God-given potential.

Leadership Responsibilities

Love God

• Model a vibrant Christian faith in word and deed, providing spiritual encouragement to staff, students and families.
• Set the spiritual climate of the middle school by supporting chapel planning, prayer times and other spiritual life activities within the school.
• Guide teachers in the integration of faith and learning; directly supervising and supporting 5–8 teachers, specialists, aides, substitute teachers, band, choir, orchestra, outdoor education, athletic director and technology integration and Grow program.
• Lead new middle school teachers in their understanding of the partnership between home, church and school.
• Care for middle school staff, parents and students with pastoral love and guidance.
• Lead with a restorative mindset in disciplinary situations.

Love Kids

• Monitor and track student performance, conduct, and discipline; keeping consistent and reliable records and reports.
• Facilitate opportunities to connect with students by being present and available during arrival and dismissal, by appearing at school functions and by meeting with students.
• Enforce disciplinary policies and procedures with students.
• Work closely with teachers to maintain positive student relationships and implement restorative practices.
• Participate in parent meetings and conferences and act as an intermediary between parents, teachers and students as needed to deal with a variety of needs or issues.
• Oversee the daily management of the middle school classrooms.
• Supervise middle school teachers and staff, providing periodic observations and evaluations that are timely and constructive and completed based on the timetables set in collaboration with the Head of School.
• In collaboration with the Head of School and other leadership team members, lead the hiring of all middle school faculty and staff.
• Oversee mentor teachers as they guide new teachers, with relevant support from other directors.
• Ensure a productive middle school learning environment through continual collaboration with the leadership team, teachers, students and parents.
• Maintain competency and student academic achievement as prescribed by the school board.
• Interact with various stakeholders to foster a positive relationship between the school and the community.
• Collaborate with various administrative and resource personnel in continuous improvement of curriculum, instructional materials, and professional development that align with local, state and national standards.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge/Skills and Abilities

Qualifications

Master’s degree in Educational Leadership, Curriculum and Instruction or related field preferred.

Minimum of 5 years of teaching experience, preferably in a Christian school setting; prior leadership experience strongly preferred.

A valid Michigan teaching certificate and/or administrative certificate preferred, or enrollment in an administrative certification program.

Strong knowledge of and experience in Christian Education.

Demonstrated ability to lead teams, mentor staff and promote academic and spiritual growth.

Strong background in research-based instructional best practices.

A committed Christian who affirms and lives in alignment with the school’s Statements of Belief, Mission, Vision and Expression of the Mission.
