The Academic School Counselor provides support to students of diverse backgrounds in grades K-12. This position is dedicated to helping 10-12th grade students be successful and looking for better ways to help students be successful. A strong emphasis is placed on communicating regularly with students and parents.

Position Information

This is a regular, part-time position, reporting to the principal.

Compensation

Base pay is anticipated to be between $20.00 and $22.00 per hour. Eligible employees may also receive incentive/commission/annual bonus pay based on individual and/or company performance. Compensation may vary based on factors such as, but not limited to, individual skills, experience, training, education/certifications, geographic location, internal equity, and local market conditions.

Envision Your Experience

In this role, you’ll have the opportunity to:

  • Uphold the vision, mission, and statement of faith of ICA, using them as guiding principles for counseling practice and interaction with students.
  • Support students in grades 10-12 with skills, attitudes, and knowledge that lead to effective academic success.
  • Advise students referred to the Academic School Counseling Program on academic strategies, goal setting, time management, mindsets, and behaviors that promote learning, development, and academic success.
  • Communicate student progress to parents of students in the Academic School Counseling Program.
  • Develop and host online classes promoting a comprehensive school counseling program of academic success, personal development, and college and career readiness for students.
  • Develop/promote resources on the school counselor webpage for academic success, personal growth, career exploration, and college planning.
  • Attend staff and team meetings and professional development opportunities.
  • Collect and analyze data to inform School Counseling Program practices and decisions.
  • Record pertinent data in student learning management system.
  • Promote a positive and safe school environment.
  • Report academic integrity, cyberbullying, or other behavior issues to administration.
  • Report suspected child abuse, neglect, or self-harm concerns as mandated by law.
  • Maintain counseling certification/professional licenses, including required professional development/paperwork for on-time renewal.
  • Other duties as required.
Share Your Expertise

Experience, education, and qualifications essential for success in this role include:

  • MA/MS in School Counseling or related field and 3+ years of experience as a school counselor; or an acceptable combination of education and experience.
  • Active School Counseling License in at least one state or through the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI).
  • Self-motivated; able to work independently and complete job responsibilities with minimal supervision.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills with students, parents, and team members.
  • Strong focus on academic student success.
  • Excellent knowledge of student motivational techniques.
  • Excellent organizational, problem-solving, decision-making, interpersonal skills, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to use data to inform decisions and implement improvements.
  • Ability to be flexible and adaptable in response to individual student needs.
  • Ability to effectively handle challenging and sensitive situations with students, parents, and team members.
  • Collaborative spirit to work with all members of the academic counseling program and school principal to ensure students’ best interests are a priority.
