Job summary

Kennedy Middle School in Michigan is seeking a dedicated Intervention Specialist to plan and implement goals, curricula, and targeted supports for at-risk students, working with teachers, administrators, and parents to ensure students receive needed academic assistance.

Under general supervision, you will administer assessments, deliver small-group interventions, document progress, and participate in professional development, safety protocols, and collaborating on data-driven action plans.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Child Development, or a related field preferred.
  • Experience working with at-risk middle school students in an academic support or intervention setting preferred.
  • Knowledge of differentiated instruction based upon student learning styles.
  • Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis, and the formulation of action plans.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
  • Ability to use computer network systems and software applications as needed.
  • Ability to organize and coordinate work.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.
  • Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.

Responsibilities

  • Work with teachers to provide subject area intervention in core academic subjects.
  • Administer, score, and record achievement on diagnostic tests as recommended for individual students.
  • Work with individual students or small groups of students to deliver targeted academic support.
  • Work with the teacher in developing or devising special strategies for reinforcing material or skills based on understanding of individual student needs, interests, and abilities.
  • Guide independent and remedial work.
  • Alert the classroom teacher and/or Teacher Consultant to any problem or special information about an individual student.
  • Maintain a required record of student work and progress.
  • Utilize district systems to monitor student performance, attendance, and intervention needs.
  • Responsible for maintaining materials and work areas in an orderly and organized manner conducive to work habits and study.
  • Maintain a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students.
  • Participate in in-service training programs as directed.
  • Use instructional technology to facilitate student learning and in the performance of duties.
  • Follow all applicable safety rules, procedures, and regulations governing the proper manner of assistance for all students.
  • Perform other duties consistent with the job goal for the benefit of students and school.
  • Perform other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.
