  • Cleans areas of the building and operates equipment, waxes floors, dusts, polishes windows, floors, ceiling ducts, entry sidewalks.
  • Completes set ups for events such as lunches, dinners, meetings, performances, and Board of Education meetings.
  • Cleans up specialized spills such as human blood and vomit.
  • Observes building problems and reports same to proper location.
  • Minor painting work.
  • Does snow removal work at building entries and walk ways.
  • Helps occupants with needs such as box or desk moving, or fixture placement.
  • Serves as ambassador for school by being courteous to students and visitors.
  • Picks up debris from outside grounds areas.
  • Assists in repair needs as required. Provides a second hand for repair personnel to help carry goods and hold items as they are repaired.
  • Order supplies for daytime cleaning needs.
  • Receives deliveries and delivers to appropriate rooms in the schools.
  • Helps erect and take down displays, such as holiday and school event displays.
  • Understands and operates a moderately complex Middle School physical plant.
  • Operates computerized control systems for fire and comfort systems.
  • Performs planned maintenance for building systems.
  • Inspects building and reports repair needs.
  • Meets with contractors and inspectors on building systems and repairs.
  • Calibrates controls and maintains operating schedules on computerized monitoring and control systems.
  • Changes maintenance items such as complex lighting and ballasts.
  • Understands and operates building systems such as bleachers, scoreboards, operates baskets.
  • Maintains locker room sanitation.
  • Trains day custodians in proper cleaning methods. Coordinates day custodian activities.
  • Liaison to night staff about service needs.
  • Observes day employee performance and reports to Facility Director. The position does not perform management supervisory duties for staff.
  • Sufficient physical strength to occasionally lift up to 80 pounds without assistance and to regularly lift irregularly shaped loads of 50 pounds.
  • Sufficient physical strength and mobility to be able to work at physical labor for an 8-hour work day without regular rest and at a pace consistent with the industry standards for the work.
  • Physical ability to mop, shovel, buff, wipe, and lift in the activities of a custodian.
  • Sufficient physical agility to be able to bend and turn, twist, and kneel to low areas and reach high areas.
  • Ability to use ladders of 20 feet and less, and powered personnel lifts in regular service duties.
  • Ability to work at heights in excess of 8-feet and on rooftops.
  • Ability to work around mild cleaning chemicals and dusty conditions without significant effects on the ability to do the work.
  • Ability to tolerate warm weather in non-air-conditioned buildings during summer as well as cold weather conditions outside in winter and maintain an adequate work pace.

    Summary of Position:
    Under general supervision, performs cleaning, maintenance, liaison, and service duties to maintain the school appearance and maintains high level of customer satisfaction of facility appearance and use. Provides leadership for day facility service staff.
