Job Description

Required Certificates and Licenses: Active Middle School English Language Arts Teaching Certification

Residency Requirements: This position is virtual and strongly prefer residents of Texas. May consider residents of surrounding states (NM, OK, AR, LA). Travel up to 20% may be required for professional development, testing, or other school functions.

Salary: $49,000 plus performance bonus eligibility.

Start Date: School Year 2025/2026

The Middle School English Language Arts (ELA) Teacher is a state-certified educator responsible for delivering course content online. Teachers provide instruction, support, and guidance, monitor student progress via Stride K12’s learning management system, and work closely with students and parents/learning coaches to meet learning goals. Teachers typically work from home but may travel for school functions.

We are seeking passionate educators for Lone Star Online Academy (LSOA), committed to providing exemplary, engaging, and individualized education through strong school and community partnerships.

This is a full-time position, typically requiring 40+ hours per week, with the ability to work independently during standard school hours and maintain a professional home office environment.

Essential Functions

• Provide engaging synchronous and asynchronous learning experiences
• Personalize learning for all students
• Maintain high expectations and belief in student success
• Differentiate instruction based on mastery levels
• Use appropriate tools to augment course content under guidance
• Maintain grade books, make placement decisions, and communicate student progress
• Prepare students for standardized tests
• Establish positive rapport with families and communicate regularly
• Support learning coaches/parents and troubleshoot technical issues
• Travel approximately once per month for face-to-face activities

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree
• Active state teaching license
• Ability to pass background check

• Experience with online platforms and supporting technology use
• Experience in virtual or traditional classrooms
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
• Ability to adapt to new technologies and maintain certification
