Responsibilities
  • Teach several sections of ELA, English courses for middle school students in grades 6-8.
  • Develop lesson plans and curricula based on the needs of individual students.
  • Utilize diverse instructional strategies to teach students both in small groups and one‑on‑one settings.
  • Assume a share of supervisory responsibilities expected of all faculty members.
  • Collaborate with departmental colleagues on curriculum design and development.
  • Provide updates to parents about student progress, via both written reports and in‑person conferences.
  • Design, administer, and assess exams to measure student achievement and growth.
  • Make use of technological resources, including the school’s online learning management site for classes.
  • Hold students accountable for standards of behavior.
  • Work with others in the school community to support each student’s emotional well‑being.
  • Serve as an advisor for a group of students, offering support, mentorship, and guidance to help them thrive academically and personally.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Education, or related field required. Master’s degree strongly preferred.
  • At least 5 years of English teaching experience.
  • Previous experience working with middle school students.
  • Ability to teach the full range of middle school English courses.
  • Experience and comfort with student‑centered pedagogy and the integration of technology.
  • No teaching license or credential is required.
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Commitment to fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion practices.
  • Detail‑oriented and resilient.
Additional Desired Qualities
  • A desire to be involved in extra‑curricular activities as well as the broader school community.
  • Ability to teach multiple subjects preferred, but not required.
  • Experience working in independent schools preferred, but not required.
