Job summary

Crystal Lake School District 47 is seeking a 7th Grade Dual Language/Language Arts Teacher to deliver curriculum in both English and Spanish for two-way immersion learners. The candidate will teach across subjects with language allocation appropriate to grade level.

The role requires bilingual fluency, deep knowledge of second language acquisition, and collaboration with district staff to advance the dual language program. This is a full‑time, on‑site teaching position.

Qualifications

• Valid Illinois Professional Educator License and Educator License w/ Stipulations-Transitional Bilingual Educator.
• Endorsements include Elementary Education (K-9) and Bilingual Education Teacher Spanish; MS Endorsement in Language Arts and Social Studies preferred.

Responsibilities

• Plan, teach, and assess all curricular areas as outlined by the Board of Education.
• Teach each lesson in Spanish or English depending on grade level and language allocation.
• Administer and align assessments (ACCESS for ELLs, MAP, PARCC) as required.
• Communicate effectively with parents in both English and Spanish.
• Collaborate with grade level team and district dual language team to develop curriculum.

Job description

Crystal Lake School District 47 currently has an opening for a 7th Grade Dual Language/Language Arts Teacher. The goals of this position are to deliver the curriculum in both English and Spanish to second language learners while using a variety of measures for assessments. Candidate will teach in a two-way immersion classroom.

Duties And Responsibilities

• Be responsible for planning, teaching, and assessing all curricular areas as outlined by the Board of Education
• Be able to teach each lesson in Spanish or English, depending on the grade level and language allocation
• Have a deep understanding of second language acquisition
• Use best practice for first and second language learners
• Be able to adapt the curriculum and language level for individual students' needs
• Further the goal of cultural awareness through extracurricular family activities
• Identify student needs and work cooperatively with other professional staff to solve learning, behavioral, and/or health problems
• Maintain organized records and prepare reports of student progress in both languages
• Maintain high standards of classroom behavior and cultural and linguistic sensitivity
• Administer the ACCESS for ELLs, MAP, PARCC, and other mandated state and local assessments, depending on the grade level
• Effectively communicate with parents in both English and Spanish through conferences and other methods
• Be able to translate between languages both orally and in written form
• Collaborate with grade level team and work with a district-wide dual language team to develop curriculum and further the goals of the dual language program
• Participate in curriculum development projects, materials selection, and committee work.
• Increase professional competence by participating in district in-service, seeking out other professional growth opportunities, and following the district's policies for continued university study

Skills And Experience Required

  • MS Endorsement in Language Arts and Social Studies (preferred)
• Be fluent and literate in English and Spanish
• Be knowledgeable of elementary curriculum as well as second language acquisition
• Promote the dual language program and its philosophies
