Job summary

The Archdiocese of St. Louis is seeking a Part-time Middle School Catechism Core Team Member to assist weekly religious education and help students grow in faith. You will support sacraments preparation and collaborate with catechists and parish staff to fulfill the church’s mission.

You will foster a faith-filled classroom, communicate with families, and participate in required trainings to serve youth and families in the Archdiocese of St. Louis.

Qualifications

• Practicing Catholic in good standing.
• Desire to share the Catholic faith with children.
• Knowledge of Catholic teachings and sacraments; willingness to learn.
• Completion of parish/s diocesan safe environment training and background check.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Middle School Catechism leader with weekly classes (grades 6–8) using Edge curriculum.
• Integrate Scripture, prayer, Catholic doctrine and Church tradition into lessons.
• Prepare students for sacraments such as Confirmation.
• Maintain a safe, respectful, faith-filled classroom environment.
• Collaborate with Youth Minister, DRE and other catechists.
• Communicate with parents about student progress and parish events.
• Attend catechist training, meetings and retreats as required.
• Set an example of active faith and Catholic values in word and action.

Job Summary

The Middle School Catechism Core Team Member assists with weekly religious education classes, prepares students for sacraments, and helps them grow in knowledge and love of God and the Catholic Church. This role is vital in fulfilling the parish’s mission to educate and evangelize children in partnership with their families.

Job Responsibilities

• Support the Middle School Catechism leader with teaching the assigned class (typically weekly sessions, grades 6–8) using the approved Edge religious education curriculum.
• Integrate Scripture, prayer, Catholic doctrine, and Church tradition into each lesson.
• Prepare students for sacraments (e.g., Confirmation) as applicable.
• Maintain a safe, respectful, and faith-filled classroom environment.
• Collaborate with the Youth Minister, Director of Religious Education and other catechists.
• Communicate regularly with parents about student progress and parish faith formation events.
• Attend catechist training sessions, meetings, and retreats as required.
• Set an example of active faith and Catholic values in word and action.

Job Requirements

• Practicing Catholic in good standing with the Church.
• Desire and commitment to share the Catholic faith with children.
• Knowledge of Catholic teachings and sacraments; willingness to learn and grow in the role.
• Previous teaching or ministry experience is helpful but not required.
• Patience, enthusiasm, and ability to relate well to children and parents.
• Completion of parish/diocesan safe environment training and background check (required).
