St. Mary Magdalen Catholic School/Parish seeks a faith-filled Assistant Catechist to support the parish religious education program and foster spiritual growth in students.

Qualifications

  • Practicing Catholic who supports the mission and teachings of the Catholic Church preferred.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Previous experience working with children in an educational, parish, ministry, or volunteer setting preferred.
  • Knowledge of Catholic teachings, traditions, and religious education practices preferred.
  • Ability to work effectively with students of varying ages and learning needs.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with catechists, parish staff, parents, and volunteers.
  • Demonstrated professionalism, reliability, and flexibility.
  • Successful completion of required background checks and Archdiocesan compliance requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Support students in the development of their faith through prayer, religious instruction, and participation in faith formation activities.
  • Help maintain a positive, respectful, and faith-centered classroom environment.
  • Assist with classroom management and student supervision during lessons and activities.
  • Prepare instructional materials, classroom resources, and supplies as needed.
  • Provide individual and small-group assistance to students to reinforce lesson objectives.
  • Support sacramental preparation activities, including First Reconciliation, First Eucharist, and Confirmation programs as assigned.
  • Assist with parish Masses, prayer services, retreats, and other liturgical celebrations.
  • Encourage appropriate student behavior consistent with Catholic values and parish expectations.
  • Communicate effectively with the Catechist, Director of Religious Education, and parish staff regarding student needs and classroom activities.
  • Maintain attendance records and assist with distributing educational materials and communications to families.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding student, family, and parish information.
  • Follow all parish, Archdiocesan, and Safe Environment policies and procedures.

Job Summary

St. Mary Magdalen Catholic School/Parish is seeking a faith-filled and dedicated Assistant Catechist to support the parish religious education program and assist in fostering the spiritual growth of students. The Assistant Catechist works collaboratively with the Catechist, Director of Religious Education, and parish staff to create a positive, faith-centered learning environment that promotes Catholic teachings, values, and traditions while supporting the mission of Catholic education and faith formation.

Job Description
