Metron seeks a mid-level Software Engineer to design, build, and mature software for mission-focused applications in Reston, VA. You will contribute across the software stack, turning prototypes into reliable software used in operational decision support.

The role emphasizes collaboration with researchers and engineers, backend/API development, and production-quality code with strong OO design. US citizenship is required for security clearance considerations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, mathematics, physics, applied mathematics, engineering, or a related technical field.
• At least 2 years of professional software development experience.
• Strong foundation in object-oriented design and software development, with experience in Java, C++, Rust, or other comparable programming languages.
• Experience creating backend software and/or APIs in collaborative production or prototype environments.
• Strong engineering fundamentals, sound technical judgment, and ability to collaborate with researchers, engineers, and end users.
• U.S. CITIZENSHIP REQUIRED; eligible for access to classified information.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain production-quality software that supports mission-oriented analysis, simulation, and decision support.
• Translate technically sophisticated algorithms, models, and research prototypes into usable software applications.
• Improve software quality through design, readability, testing, documentation, and maintainable practices.
• Build responsive, usable frontends that present complex data and workflows clearly to users.
• Collaborate across the full development lifecycle from concept to sustainment.
• Work with multidisciplinary teams to understand user needs and deliver high-impact solutions.
