Metron is seeking a mid-level Software Engineer to design, build, and mature software systems for mission-focused applications in Reston, VA. You will contribute across the stack, turning prototypes into reliable, maintainable software used in operational decision-making.

The role emphasizes collaboration with researchers and engineers, building production-quality software, and delivering practical solutions across the full development lifecycle.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, mathematics, physics, applied mathematics, engineering, or a related technical field.
• At least 2 years of professional software development experience.
• Strong foundation in object-oriented design and software development, with experience in Java, C++, Rust, or other comparable programming languages.
• Experience creating backend software and/or APIs in collaborative production or prototype environments.
• Strong engineering fundamentals and ability to collaborate with researchers, engineers, and end users.
• U.S. citizenship required for security clearance.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain production-quality software supporting mission-oriented analysis, simulation, and decision support.
• Translate algorithms, models, and research prototypes into usable software applications.
• Improve software quality through design, readability, testing, documentation, and maintainable practices.
• Build frontends that present complex data and workflows clearly to users.
• Contribute across the full development lifecycle from concept to sustainment.
