Job description

Tential is hiring a Mid-Level Software Engineer for a national financial regulatory organization building a new platform that ingests trade data from multiple sources and surfaces investigative insights through correlation and analysis. It is a multi-year initiative with visibility across the organization, and there is room to grow into broader technical ownership.

You will work independently on complex efforts with general guidance, taking on problems of moderate to substantial scope that need sound technical judgment. If you are strong on the engineering fundamentals and want to go deeper on Big Data and applied GenAI, this is a good next step.

What You Will Do

• Design, build, test and maintain features and services that ingest multiple data sources and surface insights through correlation and analysis.
• Take ownership of moderately complex components end to end, from design through delivery and support.
• Participate in architecture and design discussions and help shape solutions for the team.
• Identify and resolve technical issues and dependencies, escalating broader risks to keep work on track.
• Support production systems and improve reliability, performance and maintainability of existing code and infrastructure.
• Participate in code reviews, give constructive feedback, and help improve the team's standards and tooling.
• Apply computer science fundamentals, algorithm design, complexity analysis and data structures, with growing Big Data experience, to solve business problems.
• Use AI-assisted development tools with good judgment, reviewing generated output for correctness, security and quality.

What You Need

• Proficiency in Java and/or Python, with solid object-oriented development, RESTful API design and familiarity with microservices architecture.
• Working experience with Big Data processing frameworks such as Apache Spark, EMR (Presto, Trino) and Athena.
• Experience building ETL/ELT pipelines for data ingestion, transformation and loading, with batch and ideally streaming processing.
• Understanding of data lake and data warehouse patterns, including partitioning, schema management, file formats (Parquet, ORC, Avro) and SQL performance tuning.
• Exposure to workflow orchestration with AWS Glue, Step Functions or Airflow, and to data quality, validation and pipeline monitoring.
• Relational databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL, Aurora) and working knowledge of NoSQL databases (DynamoDB, MongoDB, Cassandra).
• Core AWS services: EC2, S3, Lambda, RDS, ECS, API Gateway, CloudWatch and CloudTrail, IAM and basic VPC networking, plus exposure to Infrastructure as Code.
• CI/CD pipelines, test automation, unit testing and software security best practices.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or a related field, or the equivalent combination of education and work experience.

Nice to have

• QuickSight for dashboards and data visualization.
• Front end experience with React or Angular.
• GitLab CI/CD.
• Hands-on use of AI development tools such as Amazon Q or similar code assistants.
