Job summary

WSP is seeking a mid-level Site Civil Engineer to join our team supporting electrical utility and renewable energy service areas. The position is based in Cincinnati, OH or other listed offices with a hybrid or remote work option.

You will design grading, drainage, and site layouts for substations, transmission lines, renewable energy facilities, and access roads while coordinating with project leaders to ensure scope, budget, and quality.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or closely related discipline.
• 3–5 years of post-education civil/site design experience.
• EIT certification or ability to obtain PE license within 1 year.
• Experience in site design for utilities, industrial facilities, municipal infrastructure, storm drainage and stormwater design.
• AutoCAD Civil 3D and/or MicroStation experience.
• Strong English communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Support grading and drainage/stormwater design for substations, transmission lines and renewables sites.
• Prepare and review engineering deliverables for civil/site projects.
• Develop site layout, grading, drainage designs and construction drawings.
• Coordinate with Project Engineer/Manager on scope, budget and quality.

The Opportunity

WSP is currently seeking a mid-level Site Civil Engineer to join our team supporting the electrical utility and renewable energy service areas. Our department specializes in high-performing projects with a focus on the future. This position will be based in our Cincinnati, OH office, Billings, MT office, or Exton, PA office, with the ability to work in a hybrid setting, a combination of home and office, or remotely.

Your Impact

You’ll be asked to support grading and drainage/stormwater management design for new and existing electrical utility substations and transmission lines, renewable energy sites (solar, wind, battery storage), as well as access road design, permitting, and construction support.

Prepare and review engineering deliverables in support of civil/site engineering projects:

• AutoCAD/AutoCAD Civil 3D and/or MicroStation
• Hydrologic and hydraulic modeling
• Stormwater management calculations, design, and modeling using HydroCAD or similar
• Floodplain modeling and analysis using HECRAS or Flo-2D
• Site layout, grading, drainage designs, and construction drawing production
• Bill of materials
• Construction specifications
• Perform detailed engineering reviews of the work submitted by others
• Provide mentorship and guidance to others
• Coordinate regularly with the Project Engineer/Manager to ensure project scope, budget, and quality expectations are met

Who You Are

• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, or closely related discipline (or equivalent experience).
• 3 to 5 years of relevant post education experience in engineering discipline and prior civil design experience.
• Engineer in Training Certification.
• Experience in site design for utilities, industrial facilities, municipal infrastructure, storm drainage and stormwater management design, site grading, roadway, and utility design, sanitary sewer design and analysis, construction specification development and development of construction bid packages
• AutoCAD Civil 3D and/or MicroStation experience
• Four (4) to eight (8) + years of experience in civil site/design as outlined above
• The candidate must have a strong command of the English language with good written and oral communication skills to work effectively with internal team members and external client personnel
• Experience using the Microsoft Office software suite

Desired Education/Experience

• Professional Engineering License, with NCEES Record and state reciprocity or ability to receive PE License within 1 year
• Proficient in AutoCAD Civil 3D grading/site development modeling and design
• Stormwater management and hydraulic modeling software (HydroCAD, SWMM, HEC-RAS, etc.) experience in drainage, detention and stormwater conveyance
• Electric utility substation design experience is a plus
