Job summary

WSP USA is seeking a mid-level Site Civil Engineer to support electrical utility and renewable energy projects in a hybrid office/remote setup. The role focuses on grading, drainage, substation/site design, and permitting for transmission lines and solar/wind sites.

You will prepare engineering deliverables using Civil 3D or MicroStation, perform hydrology/hydraulic analyses, review drawings, and mentor junior staff while coordinating with project teams to meet scope, budget, and schedule.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field.
  • 3–5 years post-education civil/site design experience.
  • Engineer in Training Certification or PE by eligibility.
  • Experience in utilities/site design, drainage, and roadways.
  • Proficient with AutoCAD Civil 3D or MicroStation.

Responsibilities

  • Support grading and drainage design for utilities and renewables.
  • Prepare and review civil/site deliverables and drawings.
  • Mentor junior staff and coordinate with Project Engineer/Manager.
  • Ensure scope, budget, and quality targets are met.

WSP is currently seeking a mid-level Site Civil Engineer to join our team supporting the electrical utility and renewable energy service areas. Our department specializes in high-performing projects with a focus on the future. Our goal is to deliver excellent projects together with a positive experience for our clients and our communities alike.

This position will be based in our Cincinnati, OH office, Billings, MT office, or Exton, PA office, with the ability to work in a hybrid setting, a combination of home and office, or remotely.

Your Impact

You’ll be asked to support grading and drainage/stormwater management design for new and existing electrical utility substations and transmission lines, renewable energy sites (solar, wind, battery storage), as well as access road design, permitting, and construction support.

Prepare and review engineering deliverables in support of civil/site engineering projects:

  • AutoCAD/AutoCAD Civil 3D and/or MicroStation
  • Hydrologic and hydraulic modeling
  • Stormwater management calculations, design, and modeling using HydroCAD or similar
  • Floodplain modeling and analysis using HECRAS or Flo-2D
  • Site layout, grading, drainage designs, and construction drawing production
  • Bill of materials
  • Construction specifications
  • Perform detailed engineering reviews of the work submitted by others
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to others
  • Coordinate regularly with the Project Engineer/Manager to ensure project scope, budget, and quality expectations are met
Who You Are
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, or closely related discipline (or equivalent experience).
  • 3 to 5 years of relevant post education experience in engineering discipline and prior civil design experience.
  • Engineer in Training Certification.
  • Experience in site design for utilities, industrial facilities, municipal infrastructure, storm drainage and stormwater management design, site grading, roadway, and utility design, sanitary sewer design and analysis, construction specification development and development of construction bid packages
  • AutoCAD Civil 3D and/or MicroStation experience
  • Four (4) to eight (8) + years of experience in civil site/design as outlined above
  • The candidate must have a strong command of the English language with good written and oral communication skills to work effectively with internal team members and external client personnel
  • Experience using the Microsoft Office software suite
Desired Education/Experience
  • Professional Engineering License, with NCEES Record and state reciprocity or ability to receive PE License within 1 year
  • Proficient in AutoCAD Civil 3D grading/site development modeling and design
  • Stormwater management and hydraulic modeling software (HydroCAD, SWMM, HEC-RAS, etc.) experience in drainage, detention and stormwater conveyance
  • Electric utility substation design experience is a plus
