Job summary

THOR Solutions in Baltimore, MD is seeking a mid-level Marine Mechanical Engineer (Propulsion) to join the USCG Ship Design Team. The role emphasizes propulsion systems, machinery arrangements, and trade studies on ship configuration, with priority on safety and regulatory compliance.

The ideal candidate will have 3–5 years in marine propulsion, ABET-accredited degree, and strong communication skills. This full-time onsite position offers opportunities to work on federal programs and advance

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Marine or Mechanical Engineering from ABET-accredited program.
  • 3–5 years in Marine Mechanical fields with propulsion experience.
  • Familiarity with ABS, NVR, and commercial ship design rules.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support and documentation design, develop, and evaluate the operation of marine vessels, ship machinery, and related equipment, to include, but not limited to: power supply and propulsion systems.
  • Research and develop ship propulsion systems, to include, but not limited to: diesels, gas turbines, diesel‑electric systems, propellers, rudders, thrusters, gears, shafts, bearings, seals, noise, vibration, and interfaces with dynamic positioning systems, and apply to applicable design and requirements.
  • Develop system documentation and ship specifications.
  • Conduct analyses propulsion systems and types, lead development of technical data packages and reviews.
  • Conduct trade studies regarding ship configuration.
