Qualifications

Job Overview

THOR Solutions is actively seeking a highly motivated Junior Marine Engineer to support the United States Coast Guard (USCG) in Washington, D.C.

Responsibilities
  • Provide technical support and documentation design, develop, and evaluate the operation of marine vessels, ship machinery, and related equipment, including auxiliary systems, hydraulics, weight handling equipment, and rudders, and apply to applicable design and requirements.
  • Develop system documentation and ship specifications.
  • Conduct analyses of propulsion systems and types, marine auxiliary piping systems.
  • Lead development of technical data packages and reviews.
  • Conduct trade studies regarding ship configuration.
  • Support Technical Interchange Meetings (TIMs) with shipyards.
  • Communicate and participate in Integrated Product Teams (IPTs) and working groups with other USCG and Navy entities.
Location & Work Arrangement

Hybrid. ~2‑3 days/week onsite at USCG Headquarters in Washington, DC, remainder may be flex/telework. Position may require additional regular onsite days, up to full time onsite, based on contract & customer requirements.

Travel

Up to 10% travel is anticipated.

Citizenship & Security Clearance

US citizenship required. This position requires a DoD Secret security clearance. A qualified candidate must either: already possess an active or interim Secret security clearance (preferred) or be eligible for a Secret security clearance upon hire. Security clearances may only be granted to U.S. citizens.

Physical Activity

Desk/computer work in an office environment. May involve repetitive motion.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Bachelor of Science (BS) degree from an accredited institution in Mechanical Engineering, Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, or a similar discipline.
  • Zero (0) to one (1) year of relevant experience with design, optimization, and integration of marine auxiliary and piping systems, ship machinery integration, cargo handling systems, and weight handling systems calculations and analyses.
  • Familiarity with computer applications relating to naval architecture and ship design.
  • Familiarity with ABS, USN, and industry standards relating to shipboard auxiliary systems.
  • Familiarity with the USCG Standard Workstation and associated software products.
