Job summary

THOR Solutions is seeking a mid-level Marine Mechanical Engineer (Auxiliary) to support the USCG Ship Design Team in Baltimore, MD. The role focuses on designing, optimizing, and integrating marine auxiliary and piping systems, ship machinery, cargo handling, and weight handling analyses.

Full-time onsite at USCG SFLC in Baltimore with up to 10% travel for ship checks. Eligibility for a SECRET security clearance is required; U.S. citizenship is necessary.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Marine or Mechanical Engineering from ABET-accredited program.
  • 3–5 years of progressive experience in Marine Mechanical fields.
  • At least 3 years of experience with design, optimization, and integration of marine auxiliary and piping systems, ship machinery integration, cargo handling systems, or weight handling analyses.
  • Familiarity with ABS, USN, and industry shipboard standards.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support and documentation for design, development, and evaluation of marine vessels and equipment (auxiliary systems, hydraulics, weight handling equipment, piping, pumps, valves, HVAC).
  • Develop system documentation and ship specifications.
  • Conduct analysis, lead development of data packages and reviews.
  • Perform trade studies.

Mid-level Marine Mechanical Engineer (Auxiliary)

THOR Solutions is actively seeking a highly motivated mid-level Marine Mechanical Engineer (Auxiliary) to support the United States Coast Guard (USCG)'s Ship Design Team in Baltimore, MD. An ideal candidate will have prior experience with design, optimization, and integration of marine auxiliary and piping systems, ship machinery integration, cargo handling systems, and/or weight handling systems calculations and analyses, and familiarity with U.S. Federal or commercial shipbuilding programs, standards, and regulations.

Typical Responsibilities
  • Provide technical support and documentation design, develop, and evaluate the operation of marine vessels, ship machinery, and related equipment, to include, but not limited to: auxiliary systems, hydraulics weight handling equipment, rudders, piping, pumps, valves, and HVAC, and apply to applicable design and requirements.
  • Develop system documentation and ship specifications.
  • Conduct analysis and design of auxiliary systems, lead development of technical data packages and reviews.
  • Conduct trade studies.
Location

Full time onsite at USCG Surface Forces Logistics Center (SFLC) in Baltimore, MD.

Travel

Up to 10% travel is anticipated for ship checks.

Typical Physical Activity

Primarily desk/computer work in an office environment. May involve repetitive motion. Periodic visits to waterfront/shipboard environments. May involve traversing shipboard environments (e.g., confined spaces, ladders, hatches) or vision.

Typical Pay Range

The anticipated pay range for this position in the identified location(s) is $80,000 - 110,000. Actual compensation offered will be based upon individual factors including education, qualifications, and experience.

Eligibility for a SECRET Security Clearance is Required

This position requires eligibility for a Secret security clearance, to be obtained after hire. Only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance; therefore, only current U.S. citizens will be considered for this position.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Bachelor's degree in Marine or Mechanical Engineering, or another relevant technical, engineering, or a marine discipline from an ABET-accredited institution.
  • At least three (3) to five (5) years of progressive experience in Marine Mechanical fields.
  • Overall experience must include at least three (3) years of documented experience with design, optimization, and integration of marine auxiliary and piping systems, ship machinery integration, cargo handling systems, and/or weight handling systems calculations and analyses.
  • Familiarity with ABS, USN, and industry standards relating to shipboard auxiliary systems.
  • Proficient with common productivity software.
  • Strong communications skills.
Additional Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Experience related to U.S. Federal or commercial ship or boat building acquisition programs.
  • Experience with DoD ACAT I or DHS Level I shipbuilding programs.
