Job summary

Instil Software Ltd is seeking a Mid-Level Software Engineer to work on backend services and integrations within a cloud-native platform. You will build Java applications with Spring Boot, design REST APIs, and develop robust integrations across services.

The role involves PostgreSQL work, Flyway migrations, and AWS-based, event-driven solutions. You’ll operate in a hybrid setup near Belfast, collaborating with product, engineering and platform teams to deliver scalable software that supports

Qualifications

• Strong commercial experience with Java and Spring Boot.
• Experience designing and building RESTful APIs.
• Production PostgreSQL experience including migrations.
• Familiarity with Flyway and database migrations.
• Containerised apps with Docker, Kubernetes exposure.
• Cloud experience with AWS services (S3, SQS, SNS).
• Testing mindset with automated/integration testing.
• Experience supporting production applications.
• Excellent communication and collaborative skills.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain backend services with Java 21+ and Spring Boot.
• Build integrations between internal and third-party platforms.
• Develop and consume REST APIs.
• Work with PostgreSQL including schema design and migrations using Flyway.
• Leverage AWS (SQS, SNS, S3) for event-driven solutions.
• Deploy and operate apps in Kubernetes; Docker Compose for local envs.
• Write automated tests with modern frameworks (Testcontainers).
• Collaborate with product/engineering/platform teams to deliver scalable software.
• Contribute to CI/CD and secure coding practices.
