Salary Expectations: $65,000 - $85,000 (based on qualifications)

Your Role:

Tetra Tech Inc. is seeking a motivated Mid-Level Hazard Mitigation Planner. This professional will be part of Tetra Tech’s growing national mitigation and resilience practice, with a strong understanding of community resilience, climate adaptation, hazard mitigation, risk assessment, nature-based solutions, social equity, decision support tools, risk communication, and stakeholder engagement. Responsibilities include managing staff, developing high-quality deliverables through project management, achieving client satisfaction, and growing the practice through new and repeat clients. The role requires strong technical and communication skills, knowledge of climate change impacts, and experience in hazard mitigation and resilience planning.

Key responsibilities include:

1. Working with communities and counties to facilitate DMA-2000 hazard mitigation plan updates.
2. Developing and coordinating input for mitigation and adaptation plans.
3. Supporting local government outreach and facilitating meetings.
4. Interpreting risk assessment results and communicating findings in written plans.
5. Reviewing local plans, ordinances, and policies, and updating hazard mitigation plans accordingly.
6. Managing large data sets.
7. Identifying mitigation projects to reduce hazard risks.
8. Conducting capacity-building activities, developing decision support tools, and engaging communities.
9. Collaborating with clients and supervising/mentoring junior planners.
10. Liaising with professionals on technical project aspects.
11. Conducting outreach, stakeholder engagement, and meeting facilitation.
12. Assisting in writing, reviewing, and preparing planning documents, reports, and visualizations.
13. Researching and analyzing socio-economic, land use, demographic, environmental, and climate data.
14. Growing the climate resilience practice through business development and proposal writing.
15. Identifying new markets and opportunities.
16. Understanding federal and state funding sources for resilience projects.
17. Managing project scope, budget, schedule, and teams to ensure satisfaction.
18. Adhering to internal procedures, legislation, and industry standards.
19. Maintaining professional development and safety standards.
20. Performing additional duties as required.

Qualifications:

• Master’s Degree preferred in Urban Planning, Sustainability, Climate Change, Resilience, Public Policy, or related field, or equivalent experience.
• At least 3+ years of experience in mitigation and resilience planning, land use, risk assessment, climate hazards, and related areas.
• Certification by AICP or working toward certification is a plus.
• Writing sample required with application.
• Experience with SB 379 and SB 747 plans.
• General planning experience, including city comprehensive plans.
• Community Wildfire Protection Planning experience.
• Willingness to travel up to 30%.
• Valid driver’s license required.
