Qualifications

Tetra Tech is adding a Mid-level Hazard Mitigation Planner to our Emergency Management Risk & Resilience team based in a Remote capacity.

Your Role:

Tetra Tech Inc. is seeking a motivated Mid-Level Hazard Mitigation Planner. This professional will be part of Tetra Tech’s growing national mitigation and resilience practice, with a strong understanding of community resilience, climate adaptation, hazard mitigation, risk assessment, nature-based solutions, social equity, decision support tools, risk communication, and stakeholder engagement. Responsibilities include managing staff to develop high-quality deliverables, project management, client satisfaction, and practice growth through new and repeat clients. The role requires technical and communication skills, knowledge of climate change impacts, and experience in hazard mitigation and resilience planning.

Responsibilities include:

  1. Working with communities and counties to facilitate DMA-2000 hazard mitigation plan updates.
  2. Developing and coordinating mitigation and adaptation plans.
  3. Supporting local government outreach and facilitating meetings.
  4. Interpreting risk assessment results and communicating findings.
  5. Reviewing local plans, ordinances, policies, and updating hazard mitigation plans.
  6. Identifying mitigation projects to reduce hazard risks.
  7. Conducting capacity building activities, developing decision support tools, and engaging communities.
  8. Collaborating with clients and supervising junior planners.
  9. Liaising on technical project aspects.
  10. Conducting outreach, stakeholder engagement, and meeting facilitation.
  11. Assisting in writing and reviewing planning documents, reports, and visualizations.
  12. Analyzing socio-economic, land use, demographic, environmental, and climate data.
  13. Growing the climate resilience practice through business development and networking.
  14. Identifying new markets and opportunities.
  15. Managing project scope, budget, schedule, and teams.
  16. Ensuring compliance with procedures, legislation, and standards.
  17. Pursuing professional development and maintaining knowledge.
  18. Working safely and reporting incidents.
  19. Additional duties as required.

Qualifications include:

  • Master’s Degree preferred in Urban Planning, Sustainability, Climate Change, Resilience, Public Policy, or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 3+ years of experience in mitigation and resilience planning, land use, risk assessment, climate hazards, and funding mechanisms.
  • Certification by AICP or working towards it is a plus.
  • Writing sample required.
  • Experience with SB 379 and SB 747 plans.
  • Experience with comprehensive plans and wildfire planning.
  • Travel up to 30%. Must have a valid driver’s license.
