WSP USA in Overland Park, KS seeks a Mid-Level Electrical Engineer (Generation) to join our Power & Energy team. The role involves leading design and analysis for substations, power systems, and renewable solutions across multi-site projects.

The position emphasizes collaboration with project managers, ensuring compliance with IEEE/NERC standards, and delivering high-quality, safe engineering solutions. Texas locations may be considered for relocation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering required.
• 5–7 years of post-education electrical engineering experience on large capital projects.
• Engineer in Training Certification.
• Experience with operations and project controls for reporting and proposal development.
• Proficiency in electrical engineering principles and design for permitting and project work.
• Experience in infrastructure planning, design, and construction management.
• Knowledge of electrical construction laws, codes, and regulations.
• Ability to perform technical computations and analyze plans and specs.
• Strong QA/QC discipline and independent work capability.

Responsibilities

• Lead design development for transmission and distribution substations, power systems, and protection and control.
• Review third-party designs, procurement lists, and project plans.
• Develop single-line and three-line diagrams, bus arrangement, grounding, and lightning protection.
• Incorporate future-ready design, equipment sizing, and conduit/trenching strategies.
• Support senior engineers with component research and field equipment applications.
• Provide technical input for site assessments and construction procedures.
• Prepare electrical load calculations, short-circuit studies, and relay coordination.
• Develop plans, specs, and cost estimates; coordinate with owners and clients.
• Contribute to data visuals and presentations for reports and memos.
• Provide guidance and training to junior engineers.
