Job summary

WSP USA is seeking a Mid-Level Electrical Engineer (Generation) to join the Power & Energy team in a nationwide search with preference for Houston, Texas. The role involves leading design and analysis for substations, power systems, and renewable solutions across multiple sites.

The candidate will contribute to due diligence, permitting, and construction phases, while coordinating with project managers and leadership to deliver safe, compliant, and efficient electrical solutions.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • 5 to 7 years of relevant post-education experience as an electrical engineer.
  • Engineer in Training Certification.
  • Experience with Operations and project controls for reporting and proposal development.
  • Knowledge of electrical engineering principles, practices, design/build, and applicable regulations.
  • Experience with infrastructure planning, design, and construction management.
  • Knowledge of engineering laws, codes, regulations, and record-keeping.
  • Ability to perform technical computations and interpret plans/specifications.
  • Project management experience on small to mid-size projects.
  • Ability to plan inspections and investigations on facilities or structures.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Self-leadership with attention to detail and multi-tasking.
  • Ability to guide junior members and enforce QA/QC.
  • Proficiency with engineering design software and tools.

Responsibilities

  • Lead design efforts for single-line and three-line diagrams, substation layouts, and grounding grids.
  • Develop plans, specifications, and cost estimates for electrical projects.
  • Create data visualizations, calculations, and reports for stakeholders.
  • Support field teams with equipment sizing, protection, and switchyard layouts.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to satisfy permits and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide guidance and training to entry-level engineers.
  • Prepare technical reports and presentations to address design or construction issues.
  • Ensure safety plans (HASPs) and regulatory compliance are in place.
  • Maintain high quality and client-focused responsiveness.
