Job summary

WSP is seeking a Mid-Level Electrical Engineer (Renewables) to join our Renewables team. This role may be based in Billings, MT or the Denver, CO metropolitan area, with hybrid work flexibility; candidates must reside near an established WSP office.

You will support all phases of renewable energy interconnection and deliver design for medium-to extra-high voltage substations and renewable facilities, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to meet industry standards and client expectations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering with power systems emphasis.
• Experience supporting utility substation design projects.
• Experience with IEEE and ANSI standards.
• Experience working on multiple engineering projects concurrently.
• Experience providing construction support and/or field commissioning support.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Legally authorized to work permanently in the United States without sponsorship.

Responsibilities

• Perform detailed electrical design for medium- to extra-high-voltage substations and renewable energy facilities.
• Develop electrical design deliverables including: one-line diagrams, control/relaying schematics, wiring diagrams, SCADA and communications, conduit and cable routing, substation physical layouts, equipment specifications.
• Support renewable energy interconnection projects from application through detailed design and construction.
• Assist with proposal preparation, engineering estimates, project schedules, and technical documentation.
• Perform electrical engineering calculations and design analyses per IEEE, NEC, NESC, and other standards.
• Support protective relaying and power system studies (short-circuit, time-current, relay settings, arc flash, protection schemes, NERC).
• Assist with infrastructure design studies: grounding, insulation coordination, EMF, power quality, motor starting, AC interference.
• Utilize industry software: SEL AcSELerator QuickSet, GE Enervista, ASPEN OneLiner, SKM, ETAP, PSCAD, CDEGS, ATP-EMTP.
• Provide construction support and field commissioning; QA/QC reviews of deliverables.
• Collaborate with internal teams, clients, contractors, and utility personnel.
• Adhere to WSP Code of Conduct and policies.
