Job summary

Mead & Hunt is seeking a Mid-Level Construction Inspector to support SCDOT projects across South Carolina. You will inspect transportation construction, verify compliance with plans and specs, perform measurements and materials testing as needed, and document daily activities.

The role requires travel across SC, a valid driver’s license, and the ability to work outdoors in varying conditions. Ideal candidates hold SCDOT-related certifications and one of: a Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in

Qualifications

• The candidate will hold at least two applicable certifications and one of the following: a Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management or related field; or an Associate’s Degree in Construction Management or related field with two years of relevant experience; or if no degree, at least four years of relevant experience.

Responsibilities

• Provide inspection services for transportation construction projects.
• Ensure work and materials comply with proposal, plans, and specifications.
• Perform calculations, take measurements, verify weights/volumes as needed.
• Plot and run cross sections; prepare as-built documents during progress.
• May perform materials testing and document inspected work daily.
• Extend travel to construction sites across South Carolina; valid driver’s license required.
• Work heavy lifting and outdoor conditions; extended hours/overnight may be required.

Mead & Hunt has an exceptional opportunity for a highly motivated construction inspector for SCDOT projects in South Carolina.

A Mid-Level Construction Inspector will be responsible for providing inspection services for transportation construction projects. They ensure all work and materials used are in compliance with the proposal, plans, and specifications. They may perform required calculations, take measurements, and verify weights and volumes as needed. They may plot and run cross sections and prepare "as builds" during progress of the project. They may perform materials testing. They will document inspected work daily.

This position requires heavy lifting, working outside in a variety of conditions on a regular basis, and ability to perform work independently. Travel to construction sites throughout the state is an essential function of this position; a valid driver’s license is required. Extended hours and overnight stays may be required.

The successful candidate will hold at least two applicable certifications, and one of the following:

• A Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management or related field

OR

• An Associate’s Degree in Construction Management or related field AND two (2) years of relevant experience

OR

• If no degree, at least four (4) years of relevant experience

Ideal candidates will have any/all of the following:

• SCDOT construction inspection and materials testing certifications. Working knowledge of SCDOT standards, specifications, and material testing procedures
• SCDOT Foundations Certification required
• Additional SCDOT certifications and CEPSCI certification preferred
