Job summary

Mead & Hunt seeks a Mid-Level Construction Inspector for SCDOT projects in South Carolina. You will provide inspection services for transportation construction, ensuring all work and materials comply with proposals, plans, and specifications, and you may perform measurements and calculations.

The role requires travel to sites across the state, heavy lifting, and working outside. A valid driver’s license is required, and candidates should hold at least two applicable certifications with possible

Qualifications

• Requires two applicable certifications and one of: a Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management or related field; OR an Associate’s Degree with two years of relevant experience; OR four years of relevant experience with no degree.
• SCDOT construction inspection and materials testing certifications preferred; Foundations Certification required or obtainable within 6 months.

Responsibilities

• Provide inspection services for transportation construction projects.
• Ensure all work and materials comply with proposal, plans, and specifications.
• Perform calculations, take measurements, verify weights and volumes as needed.
• Plot cross sections and prepare “as builds” during project progress.
• Perform materials testing and document inspected work daily.

Mead & Hunt has an exceptional opportunity for a highly motivated construction inspector for SCDOT projects in South Carolina.

A Mid‑Level Construction Inspector will be responsible for providing inspection services for transportation construction projects. They ensure all work and materials used are in compliance with the proposal, plans, and specifications. They may perform required calculations, take measurements, and verify weights and volumes as needed. They may plot and run cross sections and prepare “as builds” during progress of the project. They may perform materials testing. They will document inspected work daily.

This position requires heavy lifting, working outside in a variety of conditions on a regular basis, and ability to perform work independently. Travel to construction sites throughout the state is an essential function of this position; a valid driver’s license is required. Extended hours and overnight stays may be required.

The successful candidate will hold at least two applicable certifications, and one of the following:

• A Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management or related field

OR

• An Associate’s Degree in Construction Management or related field AND two (2) years of relevant experience

OR

• If no degree, at least four (4) years of relevant experience

Ideal candidates will have any/all of the following:

• SCDOT construction inspection and materials testing certifications. Working knowledge of SCDOT standards, specifications, and material testing procedures
• SCDOT Foundations Certification required, or ability to obtain within 6 months of employment
• Additional SCDOT certifications and CEPSCI certification preferred
