Job summary

Mead & Hunt is seeking a Mid-Level Construction Inspector to support SCDOT projects across South Carolina. The role involves providing inspection services, verifying materials meet plans and specifications, performing calculations, and maintaining daily inspection records.

Travel across Pee Dee Region / SCDOT District 5 is required, with possible extended hours and overnight stays. The candidate will typically hold a degree in Construction Management or related field (or equivalent experience)

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Construction Management or related field
• Associate’s Degree in Construction Management or related field AND two years of relevant experience
• If no degree, at least four years of relevant experience
• Ideal candidates will have SCDOT construction inspection and materials testing certifications

Responsibilities

• Provide inspection services for transportation construction projects
• Ensure all work and materials comply with the proposal, plans and specifications
• Perform required calculations, take measurements, verify weights and volumes
• Document inspected work daily
• Travel to construction sites across Pee Dee Region / SCDOT District 5; heavy lifting outdoors; extended hours possible

Mead & Hunt has an exceptional opportunity for a highly motivated construction inspector for SCDOT projects in South Carolina.

A Mid-Level Construction Inspector will be responsible for providing inspection services for transportation construction projects. They ensure all work and materials used are in compliance with the proposal, plans, and specifications. They may perform required calculations, take measurements, and verify weights and volumes as needed. They will perform materials testing. They will document inspected work daily.

This position requires heavy lifting, working outside in a variety of conditions on a regular basis, and ability to perform work independently. Travel to construction sites throughout the Pee Dee Region / SCDOT District 5 area is an essential function of this position; a valid driver’s license is required. Extended hours and overnight stays may be required. Occasional nighttime work may be required.

The successful candidate will hold at least two applicable certifications, and one of the following:

• A Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management or related field

OR

• An Associate’s Degree in Construction Management or related field AND two (2) years of relevant experience

OR

• If no degree, at least four (4) years of relevant experience

Ideal candidates will have any/all of the following:

• SCDOT construction inspection and materials testing certifications.


• Working knowledge of SCDOT standards, specifications, and material testing procedure and DOT software for data entry


• SCDOT Earthwork and Asphalt are required


• Additional SCDOT certifications, Nuclear Gauge Certifications, and CEPSCI certification preferred
