Job summary

Friends of Switchpoint Inc. seeks a Microshelter Resident Support staffer for a swing shift (3pm–11pm) in a full-time role. You will manage day-to-day shelter operations, assist residents, supervise volunteers, and ensure safety and confidentiality per policy.

The position emphasizes crisis intervention, boundary setting, and coordination of resources for individuals and families experiencing homelessness. Prior shelter experience is preferred and a Utah driver’s license is required.

Qualifications

• Experience working with homeless families in a shelter setting preferred.
• Knowledge of domestic violence, mental health, and substance abuse issues.
• Experience working with and supporting volunteers.
• Exhibits a positive and compassionate attitude, sensitivity, and ability to work well with others in a close residential setting.
• Model positive behavior, appropriate boundaries, and the ability to use sound judgment during crises.
• Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal skills.
• Ability to wear multiple hats in a small nonprofit organization.
• Proficient in MS Office Suite and Google Docs.
• Possesses valid Utah State Driver’s License.
• Commitment to serving homeless families and to Switchpoint's mission.

Responsibilities

• Understand and implement Switchpoint's mission and values; adhere to policies.
• Ensure responsibilities are carried out and enforce shelter rules.
• Maintain a calm demeanor and model positive behavior.
• Supervise shelter operations and upkeep.
• Facilitate a daily schedule for residents.
• Orient new residents on rules and policies.
• Ensure residents follow shelter rules and complete chores.
• Manage resident chore schedules and sign-in sheets.
• Conduct room and safety checks; report issues.
• Coordinate resources and donations per policies.
• Administer intake and UAs for residents.
• Transport residents using Switchpoint vehicles when needed.
• Attend meetings and trainings as assigned.
