Job summary

Generac Fort Collins seeks a Controls Engineer to own microgrid projects end-to-end—from sales handover through commissioning and ongoing support. You will balance hands-on technical work with process improvement and collaborate across Controls Engineering, Service, Commissioning, and Sales teams.

The role requires strong accountability, technical depth, and comfort in customer-facing, high-pressure environments, with travel for on-site commissioning.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering is required.
• 2+ years experience with power generation.
• 2+ years experience programming industrial controls, PLCs, HMIs.

Responsibilities

• Lead advanced microgrid control projects from sales handover through commissioning and ongoing support.
• Lead on-site and remote startup and commissioning activities with test plans.
• Develop energy resource drivers including meters, relays, generators, inverters, and BMS.
• Develop, test, and deploy control algorithms.
• Perform system testing, commissioning, troubleshooting and reporting.
• Provide high-level technical support for in-progress projects and operating systems.
• Create studies, reports, specifications, estimates, drawings, and layouts.
• Balance hands-on delivery with process improvement of project standards and quality.
• Collaborate with Controls Engineering, Service, Commissioning, and Sales teams for strong customer outcomes.
• Mentor team members with technical guidance and knowledge sharing.
• Communicate project status and progress to stakeholders and customers.
