Job summary

Scale is seeking a Microgrid Controls Engineer to join our product engineering team and help design, build, and commission microgrids. The role will be hybrid, with offices in Oakland, Santa Monica, Ridgewood, or NYC, reporting to the CTO.

The ideal candidate has a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering and 4+ years of relevant experience, with strong PLC programming and controls expertise, plus familiarity with distributed energy resources.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering and 4+ years of experience.
• Experience with PLC programming and controls engineering.
• Experience with distributed energy resources (batteries, solar, generators).
• Strong problem-solving and ability to troubleshoot complex control systems.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and program PLC-based electrical control systems
• Specify, purchase, and troubleshoot control system hardware and instrumentation
• Read, understand, and develop control system design documents (Functional Specifications, User’s Manual, and engineering reports)
• Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to electrical control systems to minimize downtime and improve operational efficiency
• Design and manage site-level microgrid networks and security
• Perform risk assessments and implement safety measures to ensure safe operation of control systems
• Collaborate with internal teams, clients, and external vendors to resolve system issues
• Support cybersecurity efforts to ensure secure and reliable controls
• Learn our microgrid controls and perfect them for each project
