Job summary

Sonic Healthcare USA is seeking a Microbiology Training Specialist in Austin, TX. This full-time role focuses on leading the development and standardization of microbiology training programs across the department.

You will create materials, establish competency standards, and coordinate onboarding and ongoing professional development for staff, while contributing to high complexity testing and ensuring safety and regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology or related science with MT training.
• ASCP certification or equivalent.
• 3+ years of high complexity microbiology testing experience.
• Demonstrated expertise in microbiology workflows, procedures, and quality standards.
• Strong reading, writing, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead development, standardization, and continuous improvement of microbiology training programs.
• Create and update training materials, competency resources, and job aids for microbiology benches and areas.
• Establish consistent training expectations, progression criteria, and competency standards across the department.
• Coordinate training assignments with qualified staff to support employee development.
• Monitor trainee progress and identify opportunities for remediation or additional instruction.
• Serve as SME and training resource for microbiology team members and leadership.
• Support onboarding, cross-training, and ongoing professional development initiatives.
• Perform high complexity testing and contribute to laboratory operations as needed.
• Champion safety, compliance, quality control, and regulatory requirements.
